August 30, 201213 yr Has anyone bought a DSLR from them before? Their prices for a Canon 550D Kit seem to much cheaper than places like FotoFile and Big Camera , I have heard that there are some counterfeit cameras out there. The one thing that seems strange is that they advertise a exclusive warranty from them directly, as this would be my first time buy a DSLR here, I'm not sure if that is the norm.
August 30, 201213 yr In that case (warranty from them) it is most likely a gray market camera not legally sold in Thailand by official distributor. In several cases when I have bought (different company) they have been Japan domestic market models so software may not work and manual will likely be a photocopy if available. But it is a real camera and can be much cheaper than the official versions. If you live in Thailand should not be too much of an issue (although company could go belly up - but in most cases no service will ever be required anyhow).

Thanks for the reply, did not realize that gray markets were sold here. I do live in Thailand have seen their shops in a few places in Bangkok like Central Ladprao and Fortune. Will have to look into it more carefully.
August 30, 201213 yr I have used this store in Fortune several times. http://www.pix-one.com/DIGITALCAMERA
August 30, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the link! Will drop by and take a look, pricing seems similar to Digital 2 Home, are they grey market cameras as well?
August 30, 201213 yr Believe they may have both but lower prices on the gray (which is what I was buying).
August 30, 201213 yr I think I bought a camera from them - the going rate was 23,000 or so - and I paid 19,000ish. It was presumably grey market from Japan. When I bought it they specifically told me about the warranty - sounded like they send it back to japan or have some sort of setup to deal with it. Worth the risk in my opinion but up to you. But I would be wary of buying grey market stuff from other dealers that don't explicity state it's grey market and don't offer a warranty service of some sorts.
August 31, 201213 yr Well do have it out of the box and check it over before buying. As others have said, probably grey market, so do check out the warranty.
August 31, 201213 yr Author Regarding gray market cameras, I don't expect there will be any issues, but have you had any major issues or problems with them? But would be nice to know from people with experience. Thanks again to everyone for the replies.
August 31, 201213 yr I have had two without any issues - but they were not high end models (just 8-10k pocket cameras). But same seller has remained in business for a number of years now. They seem to be subject to crackdowns as have to remove items from view at times but suspect that has to do with tax man (just as jewelry shops suddenly only have about 1/4 stock when due to be checked).

But would be nice to know from people with experience. Thanks again to everyone for the replies. I had a grey market lens. Sent it back to Nikon for repair under warranty, and I had to pay because it was grey. Cost about the same to repair as what I saved when buying - so next time would probably do the same if the saving is significant.
September 15, 201312 yr If a grey market camera is in a manufacturer's sealed box it will contain a warranty card for some country/region other than Thailand. I'm curious which country/regions people have found. Such a warranty could be useful to someone planning on leaving Thailand, but mostly I'm just curious.
September 16, 201312 yr I am thinking of getting the Canon eos 60d (with 18-135). The digital2home price is about 10,000 baht less than other camera shops. Seems almost too good to be true. I'm not too bothered about the warranty as long as it's a "proper" Canon camera.
September 16, 201312 yr My guess is that these are cameras meant for sale in China and are brought here under the tariff radar.
September 17, 201312 yr I have bought two cameras at great prices from their store in Airport plaza CM. The last one was the Canon XS50 HS which was going for 18,500 Baht in the Photobug store and others....but it had just come out so supplies were hard to find. In Digital-2-home i got it for 12,900...more than 5000 baht cheaper. Almost any camera in thailand will start to suffer from lens fungus before 5 years are up so I change before then anyway.
October 23, 201312 yr Bought a Cannon camera from their shop in Rangsit, far cheaper than the other places in the same building. The salesman was very clued up and demonstrated it before we bought, they chucked in a free bag and a few other bits and pieces as well. The battery charger has a different type plug, UK type, so I reckoned it must come from somewhere else, under the radar, as it were.
October 23, 201312 yr I've used Zoomcamera before . . . http://www.zoomcamera.net/ No issues, very good, grey import LX5, still going strong. Heard good things about Digilifethailand too.
