Paul888
Hmmmmm great potential for abuse here (as always) If you have a real rolex or iphone, ipad etc, make sure you bring a certificate of authenticity and a certified Thai translation of it
chrisinth
If they can do this, then why don't they give a a warning about the Jet Ski's I think if you try and bring a copy jet ski in, they will nab you for sure. May not be mentioned in the warning, but I would think it would be included. Difficult to get rid of as well if the warning is only given out on the flight and the jet ski is part of your carry-on baggage.........
khunron13
Wouldn't a warning against buying counterfeits in Thailand, and then taking them home to Farangland, be more relevant ? Either way it's the stupidest policy ever enabled or the journalist completely misunderstood the entire story. Take your pick. I particularly liked, that the announcement will be made when the plane is inbound to Thailand, and it's already too late to leave at home, one's French/Italian/British knock-offs of famous Thai products ! There will be an "amnesty" box at the door to drop off your fake goods. Once it's full everything will be taken to lower Sukhumvit where you can buy it back! Popular Post spidermike007
Time for another Minister to get his name in the newspapers just before Cabinet reshuffle time. They make it so blindingly obvious its silly. What they have not thought through, whether they like it or not is that tourists world-wide come here knowing they can get their fake rolex or LV handbag and the wording of such a strong warning really will scare tourists away from coming. This is a really really bad move when tourism has suffered and they are trying to give it a boost. It will suit the crap advertising campaign they have come up with for Thailand on the TV, not even close to matching India or Malaysia. They may not do fake goods overtly in many countries but they dont give you a warning when you are on short finals that will scare half the tourist population on an aircraft to death. Stupid, stupid! Another example of engaging mouth before brain! You are speaking the absolute truth. The Thai people have developed the uncanny ability of ALWAYS avoiding any introspection, and always finding the solution to their problems without, instead of within. It will be the downfall of this wonderful country. They have completely lost the ability to introspect. It is against their nature. They simply cannot, and will not look within. It is too painful, and too difficult. And will do all they can to prevent a solution that implicates them, in any way, and on any level. It is like watching a 12 year old analyzing themselves. Of course we should stop fake goods from coming in. Not only does it cut out own profits, but it allows us to completely deny there is a problem here, worth addressing. What us? Never. We are fine. Don't look at us. All of the problems you see in Thailand come from outside of Thailand. We maintain perfection. We had it all the time. It is our nature. It is the nature of our country. Do not even consider finding fault with us. We do not have any. What is wrong with you for even thinking such a thought!

WhizBang
<deleted>! Is it April 1 already? Really, warning about BUYING fake goods (not to mention all the myriad scams the kingdom is known for) would make much more sense. Do they really think that people flying in on commercial aircraft are hefting suitcases full of counterfit products to sell in Thailand?
ableguy
Surely he meant get caught taking fake goods out why the hell would anyone want to bring fake goods in ? only in Thailand

Arkady
So they will be arresting Thais returning home with their fake handbags bought in Thailand? Sounds like this is for show. The fake goods are imported from China in massive quantity with the connivance of corrupt politicians, police customs officers etc. They are unwilling to jail any of these big shots and the business will carry on. stefb1964
Instead of running a crack down at all the known locations in Thailand, they prefer to prey on the incoming tourists ? I guess this must be a joke or a hoax or a proof of lack of common sense and intelligence, but for sure it's hilarious. Probably I could be mistaken but maybe, just maybe, the Thai mafia government is trying to protect the local economy. Chads
I think most of the fakes are now made in China, and this law is to prevent those products from coming into Thailand. China can apparently produce such items at even lower prices than Thailand.
fredKroket
People should be warned about bring original items into Thailand, because they will be copied!
vincentc
So what will happen on your last day of your stay, you went shopping in Panthip and MBK then fly home to BKK. For some technical reason the plane can't take off, luggage is offloaded and the airline offers you a night stay in Bangkok. You get through immigration and get caughtat customes with a lot of fake goods... purchased in Thailand. Now what?

travelmann
A lot of the counterfeit goods on sale here are actually from China, not Thailand, and transported in by plane. This isn't about people flying from Europe or the US. So laugh it up but it is actually useful if it ends up being enforced and they start confiscating goods Which plod will sell onto the highest bidder to appear down Sukhumvit later in the day where they can then confiscate it on exit and repeat...................excellent idea
kkup
LOL... Its like restaurants charging massive corkage when u bring your own wine..
