Divorced Thai National Abroad, How To Correctly Register In Thailand

Clarification please

I now have final document from UK Court to say we are Divorced under UK Law.

To correctly register this divorce with Thai authorities what do I need to do please?

If so what procedure and documents need to be provided and to whom.

Is this all managed directly through the a Thai embassy in London, or must one of us, or both go to a government office in Bangkok?

clarification much appreciated

Finally assume that the 'Decree Absolute ' and any other documents firstly need to be translated into Thai, then witnessed as correct?

then shown to Thai embassy to confirm all is correct, and maybe verify them prior to being sent to government office in Bangkok?

Would prefer to go to Bangkok and registyer divorce and secure divorce paper by showing Uk divorce paper, and original Marriage certificate from Thai Amphur

Got absolutely zero response from Thai Embassy in London.

I ask in case i want to come to thailand and marry another Thai national.

( and make sure my divorce to former thai national correctly registered in Thailand- if thats necessary for me to do?)

After closer investigation i have found on Thai Embassy web site a process called 'Divorce registration' and they provide a pdf form.

But details of the process only in Thai..

Nevertheless it seems you have to go to embassy after first making appointment, and take the form with you.

What is unclear is whether they need the UK Divorce papers translated, or authenticated as true before this visist...

What is interesting is the form asks both parties to complete and sign.

I have no idea where my ex wife is.(= potential problem)

Do you think i can do this divorce registration in Bangkok instead, and bring UK papers, get then translated and take to Goverment office, once identified.( and i am the sole signatory)

I wonder if i need to do all this.

I assumed if i wanted to remarry another thai, all i needed to do was show correct documents to UK Embassy in Bangkok, provide the letter of afirmation that i free to marry, and once they authenticate it, you go to get translated before taking it to a Thai office for authorisation as ' free to marry'

( but if you not registered in advance the previous divorce?)

Advice greatfully recieved

(ps. it may not be important for me to register the divorce in Thailand. but more important for my ex wife, as the thai national to do?- just unclear at the moment)

If the foreign marriage was registered in Thailand it is important that you register the divorce in Thailand as well.

But in your case, you need to provide the dvorce papers anyway as part of the marriage process. Persons having been married before must submit there divorce papers with the affirmation to marry letter. Check your embassy webiste for more information.

I have same problem. Registered at amphur chiang Mai 1992. After doing so knew I made a grave mistake. Shortly after went back to US. Cancelled alien relative visa petition and told her why. Few years later she arrived in US on tourist visa.

We both met one day in US and both wanted to divorce. But long story short. Went to court in US and I have court divorce papers.

Had tried many times to go amphur office with my US court documets translated and trusted Thai person to translatee for me at that time.

But amphur would not do anything. And I don't know where she is and she kept both marriage certificates.

I would like to get it on the books in amphur office. Marriage register was in 1994. 2-3 later was divorced.

Advice???

Did the amphur state why?

You also need to have the documents certified by the embassy and then by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Hi thanks for the reply. I'll try again after I do those two things when I get back..

Have you tried again yet? I am in Bangkok now and are planing to try to get a divorce at Banglak tomorrow alone. The divorse was registrated first in my home country and my papers and the transations are verified by my embassy and Thai Ministry Of Foreign Affairs.

Hi well I been to consulate for notary of divorce paper. After I translate that paper I will go to ministry of foreign affairs again and give them all the papers. Then back to amphur with mof paper and all others needed.

I was in to both mod and amphur first with Thai friend just to make sure what's needed. Not to say the goal posts could move after all this but my Thai friend seems to think after the mof paper they will have to register the divorce there at amphur.

Hope yours goes well and let me know what happens..

Ok thanks for the answer.

I was at the Bangrak District Office yesterday and actually managed to get the divorce registered. I was there all alone without any help from my ex or thai friends. I dont say this is the only or correct way to do it, but this is how it worked for me:

1. Got the divorce document from my home country translatet to english. If you have to do this, be sure they are using the frases as "Sertificate of Divorce" and "Final decree" in the translations . I didnt have that and it gave me some trouble. Also, be sure the translations are very clean of what dato you very finaly divorced. - I had to go back to my embassy and get another clear statement from them that the divorce really was registeret as final, and from what date. This document also needed a translation and verifying at Thai Ministry of Forreign Affairs, and that cost me some extra time.

2. Got these dokuments verified by my embassy.

3. Translated to thai and verified this at Thai Ministry of Forreign Affairs.

4. Went to amphur / district office and registered the divorce. As i was alone, and it was not a thaidivorce, just a registration of a divorce performed in another country, i didnt get the "divorcediploma", just got a document stating that the divorce now is registered i Thailand. They attached it on copies of the documents who were made when we married there a few years ago, and then stamped them all over. I got two sets of these papers. Their englishskills are often not so good, i recommed that you bring a friend to help you translate.

5. Got the documents from the amphur translated to english here in Thailand and got them verified by Thai Ministry of Forreign Affairs for later use in my home country, for example to verify that my former marriage registered in Thailand also are registered ceased in Thailand, who is necessary if i some where in the future choose to marry a forreigner again.

In the amphur, i felt a little alone as they couldnt speak english, when i got the papers i was really not sure that this was the right ones, but of course there should not be any misunderstandings here. Actually waiting for the translations right now, i really hope there are no suprises in them.

Hope this could be to help for those who needs this kind of information. Where i am from, after a rush of thai-forreign marriages in the years of 2005-2010, i now see a rush of divorces.

By the way, thank you for decoding my english.
