For those saying they have had many issues with Toyota Thailand getting a warranty serviced from another dealer than they bought the car from, I can feel your pain, but, the Isuzu we have, this was never an issue, actually they replaced several parts that were wearing but not yet broken on it's last service before the warrenity would expire. We used several dealers, based on geographically where we were at the time fore servicing, that one we like the most is far from us now, but we still go there. The best one I have found is in Chonburi City, (near this incident) almost opposite Chonburi JJ markets down the road about 2km from big C. It is nice to actually have a good news story sometimes !

claimed that damage which was repaired under warranty was not completed to an acceptable standard and they demanded a new car and 300,000 Baht in compensation.

How is an accident considered damage covered under warranty? And why on earth would they get a new car and 300k cash compensation? How bizarre these folks are.

And then what's with taking a hammer to the windscreen? What is that supposed to accomplish? Is that also covered under warranty?

Exactly why people should be allowed to carry firearms - to protect themselves from thugs like these two police.

Or counter argument could be made to take firearms off everyone...you from the US by any chance..whistling.gif

Don't know if time traveller is from the US but I am. Let me pose a question to you. If you were away on a business trip and a rapest broke into your house with your wife and daughter home alone which would you prefer: Your wife calling 911 and the police showing up 15/20 minutes later or your wife pulling her 357 magnum and blowing the rapest away. I prefer the latter.

Mate stop watching so many movies...for reference, I carried a Glock-17 as concealed weapon for many years in particular country I lived in and did use it in "anger" on more than one occasion, so please dont start trying to preach to me the world would be a better place wherein everyone runs waving their .357's....its not I can assure you that first hand...BTW personally feel a .357 is a big heavy for a lady anyway

But to answer your question...I would ensure my property was secure enough that a rapist wouldnt be breaking in, in the first place, but will give you a chance to respond and provide me some actual/real cases were your scenario happened and what the outcome was

stupidity gives car dealers and the brands that they represent a bad name, sooner or later someone is going to say enough-is-enough and punch a service manager on the nose!

Or draw a weapon!

Or, I would throw my 135+ kg in UFC style on his body. Expecting TKO by bodyweight and the fulfillment of my conditions.wink.png

Makes me ask one question, too:

How big is the chance, that a rapest comes across?

I mean, without a (legally?) bought gun?

I believe you embellished my post a tad my friend. I did not suggest "the world would be a better place wherein everyone runs waving their .357's". You suggested that all firearms should be taken from everyone. And then followed with a sinde remark about the poster possibly being from the US. The second admendment to the US Constitution guarantees its citizens the right to bare arms.

I was simply stating that for protection in the home a hand gun should be available. And you are correct the 357 is a little heavy but not that heavy for certain ladies.

As you requested here is an actual/real case with the outcome although with a shotgun.

Chonburi City must be slipping. Had this been another city and the car a Ferrari not a Chevy, we could have had a police commissioner and high ranking underling on the scene within an hour.

Why no police trying to settle one of their own down???

This article doesn't tell the whole story, I'm sure. It's so confusing.

Accident damage is not covered by warranty, it's covered by Insurance. So is the dispute with the insurance company or the dealer.

Yes, some dealers have body shops and undertake repairs, and I have seen some shockingly bad minor repairs. That's not about warranty though.

Perhaps it is the frustation of repeated bad warranty work and then bad accident repair that drove this couple over the top. It takes a lot to get the average Thai to go balistic, but when they do.. watch out.

To the morons who question how they could afford a new car... at least one of this couple is a police captain, so it's highly likey the other is also a high rank. Of course they can afford a new car, but it's a major purchase and that may help to explain why they are so aggrivated.

New Car Dealerships in Thailand make their own rules as they go along, 2 years ago I was flatly refused a warranty repair on my 18 month old Toyota in Khon Kaen, the Toyota dealer there told me my warranty was in Chiang Mai where I bought the car... this kind of moronic stupidity gives car dealers and the brands that they represent a bad name, sooner or later someone is going to say enough-is-enough and punch a service manager on the nose!

I have 2 different stories: a good and bad one from Toyota.

To start with the bad:

indeed bodywork is done shockingly bad! I had some minor repairs and 1 time the dealership itself suggested me to let it redo after checking it out with me. The problem is mostly not the dealerships but their bodyshoppartners, which deliver very bad work. Most likely because the fact that insurance companies try to reduce costs and the workload with the millions of minor car-accidents here.

I guess we will need to live with this situationsad.png

The good story (which started bad at first!):

Apparently the airpump of my Fortuner (then about 3.5 years old) broke down as did the control electronics for this. I searched the internet, but could not find any similar issues with other Fortuners (or even other brand cars). The dealer quoted me about 40k baht for the repair on which I told them that this is NOT a normal wear out or something. They agreed with me and suggested to call to Toyota Thailand and provided me their service number. After hearing my story they sent 2 people (including a technical expert) to the dealership where I made the appointment. First time I waited at the dealership and they didn't show up. I took a half day leave for this and since they did not inform me upfront I told them that they will need pay me back my half day! To my surprise they admitted and paid me back a half days salarywai.gif Then the 2nd appointment they showed up and the technical guy took about 10 to 15 minutes to inspect my car. After that the other guy (technical service manager or something) told me Toyota will pay for the repair clap2.gif Even though this was already a half year outside warranty, but they agreed with me that this was definitely not a normal problem. He even gave me his card and told me that I could call him whenever I had some serious issues with my car. So far this was not needed though and my car still runs fine.

OT: I can imagine that sometimes you feel like you want to shoot some people here for their service (well, lack of that is), but of course to actually draw your gun (for people who carry a gun) and especially people in public service functions is a no-no.

Every time I look at

Not sure BiB is strictly correct heresmile.png

BIB or GIB, whenever I look at them and realise they are armed........I cringe.

Next time look carefully, as some carry 'Beun Bomb' - phony guns... I have seen BiB with 'BB' Guns and even plastic toys. A real gun is often too expensive for a lower rakning BiB...

As fo comments about attitude - spot on - as in the USA almost anyone can own a gun (average of 3 per person), yet the US has a lower gun death total than Thailand...

This Thai bimbo should have tried this here in America. In car dealerships there are usually a couple employees that have concealed weapons usually the manager or head salesman. If a policewoman in uniform pulled this stunt here she would be in cuffs and lost her job, but in Thailand she will be probably get promoted.
