i have to fly out of thailand next weekend, currently on a non-imm B visa - is the process that i need to go to chiang mai immigration this week and get a re-entry permit? do i need flight tickets/proof of travel or anything to do this? thanks in advance.

You only need photo and passport copies/fee of 1,000 baht. If you wait until airport then ticket/checkin would be required but best to get from immigration office prior to travel even in Bangkok where airport has service 0600-2400. Not sure what Chiang Mai may offer if that is your exit point.

Tke a printout of your e-ticket with you, just to be sure. When I applied for a re-entry permit there 2 years ago I was asked for it, but I was some what of a special case.

Never any problem at Chiang Mai immigration I fill out the form and throw in a few dates and submit the paper work, no ticket requested. I have seen the immigration desk manned at the Chiang Mai airport on several trips but I always think when I need one it will be closed. Always get when I get extension

I always purchase a re-entry permit at Chiang Mai immigration the same day I obtain my 12-month extension. I just put "unknown" in the travel dates and have never been questioned.

I've seen the counter at the CM airport for requesting a re-entry permit, but it never seems to be open when I'm at the airport seeing people off on a flight. I can't determine any predictable open hours pattern.

yes i fly out from CNX on saturday so think i won't risk the airport office being closed. will get down to immigration one day this week.

Does anyone know the opening hours of the re-entry permit office at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport? Also, how long does it take to process a re-entry permit there? If I show up on a Saturday afternoon, will they be open? Where is the office located, behind the check-in counters or somewhere else?

On that matter, if my flight leaves at 15.15 and I'm flying business class, can I show up at say, 13.30? Would this be enough time (keeping in mind that as a business class passenger, there are no queues at immigration and I still want to visit the airline lounge before departure)?

Opening hours are 06:00 till 24:00 and you need to have checked in with the airline before issued. After having checked-in you go to immigration. Be sure to go to the right immirgation area, as only one of the immigration halls has are-entry permit desk. Just ask the staff. You need to buy the re-entry permit before actually going through passport controll.

Should not take longer then 20 minutes.

OK thanks for that; sounds like this desk is located behind immigration, which explains why I've never seen it in the check-in area (unlike at Don Mueang, where it was clearly visible near the check-in areas). Keep in mind that I will only be going through the fast-track immigration as a premium passenger I am entitled to that and I'm not going to go past the slower normal immigration line as that line is horrendously slow (although last month there were hardly any passengers but this month it might be different). I hope that there is a re-entry permit desk behind the premium counter. If not, I'll find an immigration office to get this done rather than take a risk at the airport as in the heat of the moment, sometimes these things can get screwed up a bit.
