Thai flags used again used to rattle the South

NARATHIWAT, Sept 10 - Thai flags were used again overnight to irritate and distract the authorities in the restive southern province of Narathiwat on Monday.

Police inspected a rubber plantation in Ra-ngae district this morning after being informed that three Thai flags were used to distract the authorities.

Police found three Thai flags hanging separately in three rubber trees, as well as suspicious mounds under the branches of the trees.

A bomb squad searched for explosive devices but found nothing buried there.

Police are looking for possible links the recent placement dummy and real explosives in many locations, together with Malaysian flags on August 31.

Last Thursday a Thai flag was draped on a roadside tree in Narathiwat with a half-kilogramme booby-trap rigged explosive, which experts defused. Soldiers seeing the booby-trap declined to respond to the bait. (MCOT online news)

Provincial officials prohibited from using office phones for private affairs

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Interior Ministry has instructed pronvincial govonors to prohibit officials from using office telephones, after it previously prohibited the officials not to logon to social media websites such as Facebook during the working hours.

The ministerial memo, signed by deputy permanent secretary Pracha Terat on August 31, cited the telephone bill expenses as reason and urged the supervisors of each office to control the telephone usage as appropriate. That is; to make a long-distant or international call, the caller official must write in the logbook details of the number and the mission; to make urgent long-distant calls for personal matter, the caller officials must be responsible for the expenses - both cases of which the callers' supervisors' permission must be obtained first.
