Dreambox, Will It Ever Come Back On ?

Recommended Posts

Have heard various rumors that ' money has changed hands' etc but no actual evidence that it'll ever come back on. so, the question is... is it time to get something new or just be patient.

I, like many others, think True visions is over priced and the fact i only want to watch the Premiership football makes it even more 'not an option'. So, how does anyone who doesn't have True visions watch the footie ? I've been streaming it but am sick of the adverts and buffering problems and would rather buy a new box similar to the dreambox but don't know which, if any, to get.

I think the answer is almost certainly no.

The company that provide the encryption, NDS, has been purchased by Cisco, and I'm sure they will go a long, long way to make sure NDS' reputation remains intact.

It's the same company that protects Sky TV among others.

SKY tv uk has been compromised with card sharing for many years so there protection as you put it is not up to very much

NDS has not been compromised, I think your information is quite a few years out of date.

That's why News International owned 49% of the company until they sold it to Cisco.

I stand corrected because I get Sky Italia over Videoguard, but I think that's because they have not yet rolled out the boxes so can't tie the cards to the box until they do so.

For me the Premiership Football is the drawing card - you know the admission price for top games in UK, so paying 50 Baht a day for something I really enjoy isn't such a hardship. I'd sooner have 24 hours of True Visions than a five minute bottle of Chang.

Because they now use NDS with the encrypted boxes in the Middle East, which knocked out most of the pirates, you can get the Premiership - and F1 - all in HD for about $100 a year.

Divide that over 380 games and 20-odd races and it's peanuts.

Although I have some friends in Greece who had legit Nova cards when suddenly they stopped the English commentary. The reason: The Premier League made them do it.

Pretty bloody unreasonable, but of course Nova is easily card-shared because they won't spend the money on new encryption, and people were buying Nova cards for use in the UK - Sky is 50 quid a month or something if you only want the basic+sports.

Dreambox, Will It Ever Come Back On ?

Dreambox has never gone off, ??

Or is it what you mean is TrueVision Gold and Plat..... All the channels under gold still work perfect on the Dreambox, as do many other channels on different Sats

Plus as your posting here you must have internet ? maybe your own PC? watch what you want via Live Stream on the PC, or/+ stick a cable from PC into the TV and watch,,,,,,,,,,,,,, This past weekend watched F1 races + all 3 Practice sessions LIVE in HD from "Sky Sports HD Live" on my 42" TV via my PC....... + it is FREE, [ Live stream from UK Sky Sports] ..........

I did a search and came back with many all over the wotld broadcasting Live F1, I picked Sky Sports because the guys with the mikes, Johnie Herbert and Damon Hill

There are simple 100's of Live channels on the internet from all over the world

If I understand the advert on the TV screen,Premiership football is available for all the games at an additional cost of some 600 baht/month...so if you subscribe to the basic package and add the football package, you get the cheapest deal..won't be HD though.

They seem to have a mix of Videoguard and IRDETO. I wonder if there are cost or contractual implications migrating from one to the other. Either way, I'd expect the remaining channels to disappear sooner rather than later.

The remaining channels are the knowledge channels, and are mpeg2/irdeto.

Presumably the revenue on the cheap package does not justify changing the recievers from those subscribers, which they would need to do to move to mpeg4/NDS...

I wonder if it occurs to this poster that if they had more legal customers, the costs to those customers would go down.

Dreambox pirates cost legitimate customers money, so as far as I'm concerned if they all get blocked - Good riddance.

If you are too cheap to pay the companies who are paying *big bucks* for the Premiership, then go down the pub and watch it, you cheap gits.

They will not lower the price unless competition forces them to do so. If you think they will lower the price out of the goodness of their hearts you are living in dreamland.

And I love being a cheap git, gives me money to spend on other cheap things rolleyes.gif

Do you steal other things as well, or buy stolen goods in pubs?

I saw a flyer from BigC advertising their products and they have a Leotech box and satellite dish at 1900 Baht. Could be worth checking out at least. Certainly not expensive.

I currently have a GMMZ box and do not pay anything for the programmes on that. 1000 Baht for the box. That is cheap and cheerful.

I have to laugh at you saintly people who never do anything wrong in this world. Does it make you feel good to be that way? Me? I'll continue as I am thanks as long as companies rip us off with extortionate prices and especially those with a monopoly.

If you think that True's switch has stopped the pirates then think again. There are plenty of other options available depending where you live.

The so say pirates are trying to help the masses that cannot afford over 2,000 baht per month....

Ah bless, and there was me thinking they were just doing it to make money.

Duh.

Yes for sure, but how many would bother with so say pirates [understand some pay 400 baht monthly] if the real thing was 500 baht. !!

Same as many Thai working people cannot pay more then there total monthly wage on M$, when they can get a pirate copy for 150 baht... I did ask some time ago as so many use the copy, most said if it was 1 - 1,500 baht then they would not think about using a copy OS for M$...

So my guess would be the same for TrueVision.

You don't seem to get it. If they had all the customers the pirates have, they would be able to drop the price.

I'm sure the reason they bought NFL back is that their revenue has already increased significantly from being able to block certain channels from the Dreambox.

As for M$, they already tried a low cost version of Windoze for Thailand - Bt1200 - but it never took off because people prefer the pirate stuff2.

Do you know how much the Premiership costs to buy for Thailand? I'd estimate 10 figures in USD, at least, for a three year contract. They have to get that back somehow.

And if people aren't paying their share, the rest have to shoulder more.

Sorry, but it's theft, plain and simple. They pay the rights, they supply the boxes, and low rent thieves steal it to save a few quid - while driving the price up for the legitimate consumer.

At this moment in time, Sky UK, Astro and Truevision all use NDS Videoguard as their encryption system, knowing that Astro and Sky are being shown on Dreamboxes worldwide and have been for quite a while, I would say that is is only a matter of time before its available again in Thailand. As I understand it, it is difficult to stream to more than so many "customers" without being very expensive. Once this minor problem is overcome, its back to "normal" for Dreambox owners. Oh by the way I am a legal Truevision subscriber but only for the Supersport package (footie) at 650 baht per month.

As I said above, the problem is that the encryption is only truly effective with the right decoder - which means they either have to pay for it themselves or try and get the customer to pay for it, which is not an option.

That statement is not necessarily correct.

IME Dreamboxes are much better receivers than those provided by the satellite operators

and can have recording facilities. This allows me to watch programmes when I want

rather than when they are broadcast. Why should my life be dictated by the broadcaster??

I use to be able to use a legal card in my Dreambox, so I was paying for the service.

That is no longer the case. :bah:

You should note I said "Dreambox pirates".

And they are the reason your card no longer works in other decoders.

Sorry I missed the word "pirates"

Cards are generally locked to a new receiver and will no longer work with the DB :bah:
