You should note I said "Dreambox pirates".

And they are the reason your card no longer works in other decoders.

Sorry I missed the word "pirates"

Cards are generally locked to a new receiver and will no longer work with the DB bah.gif

Yes..... because that's how you stop card sharing.

True like many other Companies appear to try to charge prices beyond what many will or are able to pay....... To me anyway is common scene if True charged 1,000 baht per month then they would get double the customers..... if they charged 500 baht per month they would get 4x expect well over that customers......

So TRUE @ 500 baht per month for Plat True,,,,, would the so say pirates even bother ? would costumers even bother to look for non True ?

The so say pirates are trying to help the masses that cannot afford over 2,000 baht per month....

This is not just for TV but a wide range of goods, and of course not just in Thailand.

Are you living in the real world whoever you are? Perhaps shops should give their products away free then people wouldnt shoplift!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For card sharing yes, but not for a set top box at home with the original subscription card , as many have already explained here in detail, they work just fine.

This is very close to what the new True/PSI systems does, so hang on before you kill the messenger i.e. ignis - all of a sudden True now have access to over 9,000,000 users from PSI.

Correct on the first bit, but not always correct the second bit ..

You don't seem to get it. If they had all the customers the pirates have, they would be able to drop the price.

I think you, or at least Truevisions, don't seem to get it. Why would everyone have to sign up first, in the hope they ( Truevisions ) will lower their prices thereafter?

If they want the market, they should offer their services at affordable prices.

Is this what you mean as they do have their combined acts together and I apologise in advance if this source is out of order;

TrueVisions to widen satellite viewership

From http://www.bangkokpo...lite-viewership

Alliance with PSI puts shows in more homes The pay TV operator TrueVisions is continuing its partnership with PSI Holding, the country's biggest satellite dish provider, to expand viewership to 11.5 million households.

PSI's 9 million households with C Band satellite dishes plus 500,000 households under the KU Band system will be allowed to watch TrueVisions programming on 8-15 channels.

If including the existing 2 million TrueVisions subscribers, there will be up to 11.5 million households watching shows provided by the pay TV operator.

"It's our main strategy to expand the pay TV business to reach the free-to-air TV market, which is considered the mass with a lot of potential," said Anat Mekpaiboonvatana, the managing director of TrueVisions.

PSI viewers can access TrueVisions content more conveniently by pressing the Smart Move button on the remote and selecting True Category. True 10, a new channel, will be launched to serve as an option for free-to-air viewers.

Last month, TrueVisions and PSI jointly launched the PSI True set-top box, which received positive feedback from customers.

Suphachai Chearavanont, the chief executive of True Corporation, said the company plans to expand its content with the planned introduction of set-top boxes open for both free and pay systems.

True intends to enter a solo bid for the three-year rights to broadcast English Premier League football.

Somporn Teerarochanapong, the chief executive of PSI Holding, said the partnership with TrueVisions in launching set-top boxes in August was an important step in taking satellite TV content to another level.

"We plan to increase our viewership base to include more than 300,000 boxes by year-end," he said.

At present, PSI's viewers include 11 million households _ 10.5 million in C Band and 500,000 in KU Band.

Nine million households in the C Band system can also view TrueVisions programmes.

Mr Anat said expanding the viewership base will benefit the pay TV operator with more ad sales in future.

Ad revenue now makes up 10% of total revenue for TrueVisions and will rise to 15% next year.

"We forecast that our revenue will exceed 10 billion baht by the end of this year, up from 9 billion baht last year," said Mr Anat.

Some 90% of total revenue will come from subscription fees.

Mr Anat said TrueVisions would like to have more channels to generate more ad revenue, but no transponder bandwidth is available now.

The firm is pinning its hopes on the future launch of the Thaicom 6 satellite.

Which are those channels 8-15 that PSI users are allowed to view?I have such a feeling that it are the same channels you can receive with sticking a cloth hanger in your antenna plug with some free learning tv channels thrown in.

Does the PSI subscribers get those completely for free or how much they have to pay extra?

My point is that someone who only wants to pay 150 - 500 Baht for programming, and that seems to be a lot according to the threads on this forum alone, will never be a potential customer for True regardless of the fact that they turn all pirate receivers useless or not.

The only way to reach these customers is by lowering their prices for the interesting packages. And like another poster said already, it could probably multiply their customer base with a factor 4.
