I am currently over here on a 30 day tourist visa and our son was born less than 2 weeks ago. I only come and go on a tourist visa back and forth from work every 4 weeks.

My 30 days are up on 20th September. What I want to know is that if we get married before then will this allow me to extend my stay or will I still need to leave the country?

Normally I don't have this problem but I have extended time off with the new arrival. I believe I might have the option of going to Vientiene and getting a Thai visa there which will give me 60 days, is that information correct?

Any help is much appreciated.

You should be able to get a 60 day extension at Immigration on the basis of having a Thai Son.

Assuming the boy is Thai of course.

2.24 In the case of an alien

visiting a Thai spouse or child:

Permission

will be granted for a period of not more than 60 days at a time

(1) Proof of relationship.

(2) In the case of a spouse, their marital relationship shall be de

jure (legitimate) and de facto.

And if you get married you can also get the 60 day extension on that basis. But unless you have several months and can currently meet the requirements a one year extension of stay would be a problem as you must return on set dates a month or more later. Perhaps a better plan would be to marry and then make quick trip to Savannakhet to obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa valid for one year of up to 90 day stays. This allows frequent travel and longer stays when available without any need to contact immigration or wife to do so. At Savannakhet it would require normal passport photos, copy of wife ID card and home register and the marriage certificate. Visa cost would be 5,000 baht.

For marriage you need letter from UK Consulate and then you and wife can visit a District Office to register.

Thanks Lb, yes he is Thai.

I'll nip in by the immigration today and see what they say, I had planned to do that anyway but just wanted to ask on here first.

Cheers

Savannakhet is across the border in Laos. But does not require proof of any amount in a bank account. Other Consulates may require 100k to 400k in bank to provide the multi entry visa.
