Koolvod

Featured Replies

Anyone know where we can buy Koolvod - Chiang Mai's locally produced vodka? There was a stall in the Sunday market at the beginning of the year selling it but haven't been able to find it since. Heading home next week and would love to take a bottle with us.

A good quality alternative is NIIKKI which is distilled in Chiang Mai from rice. It tastes good mixed with fruit juices, and makes a nice Chiang Mai gift for folks abroad.

The company also exports Schnapps made from various fruits, but they are not sold here as far as I know.

I've seen Niikki on sale at Rimping - I think about 450 Baht.

Citylife ran a feature on the distillery which you can access here. Niikki is mentioned in the closing paragraphs.

Cheers-

Ah, but Koolvod is triple distilled and smooth enough to drink neat! There is no alternative for me I'm afraid but thanks for replying.

I think I remember a locally produced vodka being served and promoted by Mao Dokmai/Drunken Flower in an article in City Life a couple years back. Maybe prowl their site for contact info. Not sure if Drunken FLower still serves it, but I enjoyed drinking it. I also want to recall (accurately or not) that there was a rice liquor and a coconut liquor.

Could be the same label you're looking for, maybe have a poke around.

another Chiang Mai made Maa Jai Dum

wow, never heard of vodka being distilled in CNX, is the taste more like Absolut, Finlandia or Stolichnaya?

vodka is my weapon of choice.

The liquor store on the corner of Huay Kaew and Canal Road has it. I agree, good Vodka.

Thanks Kilt. As the shop you mention is about as far away as you can get in Chiang Mai from where we're staying, do you know if they definitely have Koolvod in stock and what hours are they open? Thanks.
