You must go at different times than I do. I just got back from there and every table was full and I was the only Westerner. Other than Sunday (Walking Street day), I usually do not see a lot of foreigners.

Anyway, to each his own, but, I really like the place.

I usually went at around 10-11am, then again around 5-6pm, there's a little time slot for dinner where if you go at the wrong time, everything from the lunch shift will be almost gone, and theyre prepping for the dinner rush.

ooh man i miss those mushrooms, my favorite !

is the name of it nam mae ping or it on the ping river---id like to check it out..

http://www.nammaeping.com/ No English website.

A selection of their food for under 50B There is more, towards the back of the menu you find the 'over rice' section which has a good selection.

Alternatively, the 159B set of 5 dishes (not full size) is enough to feed two, plus rice and drinks.

+1

good food (Northern thai + some 'Korean' style food) , location, clean, friendly, english menu with photos, suitable for locals and tourists, I usually go there for lunch. Very rarely crowded, always some guests.

I like gaeng hanglay, Khao Soi, crushed pork with nam prik, fried pumpkin and others.

I just had a delicious beef noodle soup at Kanjana on Rachadamnone Soi 5 here http://goo.gl/maps/0RTgV . 45 baht and it was very filling. I'm sure most people have seen this place.

Something I've done in other parts of the world I've lived and thought about for here is create a collaborative google map for people to share favorite places and locations. Is anybody interested in something like this? I've left this map "Chiang Mai Eats" open for anybody to contribute. It just seems that when you have a large circle building something like this that you can end up with something very useful, very quickly.

I know there is already a map similar but it is not open to collaboration so for this kind of thing it would be cool for everybody to share links.

Ok, today I went to a favorite place. I failed to get the name but I always eat the same Tom yum moo there. It is fantastic there and when I get a craving, I head right over. 45 baht for a nice sized bowl with an egg.

An additional bonus is that there are enclosed soccer courts next door so if you go at the right time, you have a little entertainment.

It is located on the east side of Phrapokkloa Road just south of the north gate. Phrapokkloa Road http://goo.gl/maps/Qz00I

Open setting and very clean.

I have walked past there in blissful ignorance so often.... usually in the evening, on my way to eat on the other side of the moat at Chang Phuak market. next time, I'll take a detour. Thanks for the heads up.

For those from home and missing the sight of sheep

Head put to Hang Dong BiG C and turn right at the intersection you will see a nice restaurant serving Khao Mun Kai for 35 baht a plate and allows u to go into the paddocks and take pictures with the sheep ...the food is good the place cooling at night and the sheep a great sight

You won't miss this restaurants as it is next to the one with giant grey windmills

Just curious, how much for the transport to go there and back, for a below 50 Baht meal? rolleyes.gif

From my place it is 3 km. My honda wave cost 70 stang per km so that would be just over 2 baht. in my Triton CNG it would cost about 3 baht.

So either way it is under 50 baht until I add not 1 but 2 cokes at 10 bt each (water is free) and then order a second helping becasue it is so good. So now I am to 80 Bt. + the 3 baht for fuel. but when you pay she give you free candy mint that helps off set those cost

No tip?

For the absolute best Kao Soy in Chiang Mai go here. 40-50 baht

1) right at nakorn ping condo (on Huay Kaew across from Shell)

2) first right

3) first left

4) Kao Soy Mae Sai on your left about 50 meters

They have tender braised beef or a chicken leg.

40-50 baht, no place else can compare.

did you describe the place next door to Auntie Aoys..opposite the Cheetah bar.....also a top place for me...(the bar aswell)

Nobody's mentioned Malee noodle shop at 89 Plaza yet. Speciality is Guay Diaw Sukhothai, which is excellent with a good choice of meats/fish to put in. Prices are 30-40B. They also have a reasonable Khao Soi.

Would you Adam and Eve it? Looking for a website, and it appears they have 5 branches around town. One at P&S mansion on Huay Kaew for all you trendy Nimanhaeminers.

Facebook page.

Just be careful not to get stung on the extras, Kep Moo 20B for a small bag!

Before or after the windmills?...anyone been to the windmill place--looks nice=$$$

It is before the wind mill place same side, coming from Airport Hang Dong Road.

The Wind Mill place, I think more Holland like is fair at best and over priced. Something to due with the princess I was told but didn't understand how ? Only Thai food, Limitied indoor seating, And pricy for what you get IMHO

I live in the area and it sure looks nice but figured it would be pricey and seems u need a nice night to enjoy it as its mostly outside--ie rainy season--ie--sitting there on a date and the skies open up like they tend to do here--(this girls running for cover as not to ruin thier hair-makeup-ipad)

anyhoo BEFORE--gotcha will try as its in my budget and can get a closer look at the hi-so eating!!!

u might have seen my a** sitting in ming kwan...i see many whiteskins as well there when i go--and that 1000 yard stare from the little gal that works there that keeps giving me rice when i always just get veggies--no rice!!!---and i ate there 2x a day when i lived in area---i still do have a boyhood crush on "mingkwan" post baby--but seems i just get a fake smile when i say hello---

side note the dished do get boring--but get my potato fix---enough with the green peppers already and i agree on the mushrooms---i found where u can buy them in a sealed bag---50 baht my man!!

yep that looks about right, the green arrow should be cheetah, the red 'A' should be the Khao Soy place. Khao Soy place will have a bunch of motorcycles parked out front during lunch. There will be a few tables in front, then a couple steps that lead up to a higher area with more tables.

Whoever likes Khao Soy, this place really should not be missed, get there early though, they run out everyday.

This is the place for the Dry Tom Yum Boran noodles....please please please do not forget to tell them Mai ped (not spicy) or else you will surely suffer...squeeze the lime ! These people are very nice, the owner has a mildly retarded sister who is very sweet and is the waitress.

http://goo.gl/maps/oqUmH

-----------------------------------------------------

vegetarian place is here, but its really really really thai taste, most foreigners dont like strong taste so may not be for all. However if you like full flavored thai food but want meat substitutes this is the place. Typical thai place with alot of neighborhood gossip going down here.

http://goo.gl/maps/M4c1w

-----------------------------------------------------

Thai fried chicken place, really flavorful , maybe too much flavor for some, taste comes from fried onions...eat with sticky rice please. Gets soggy if kept for a few hours, they sell tons of chicken all day long.

http://goo.gl/maps/jP55E

----------------------------------------------------

Another good Thai fried Chicken place

Different taste from the one above, may be better for farang taste. The chicken here stays crispy, i can tell you why but id have to kill you. They dont make that much per day, so get it early.

http://goo.gl/maps/Wh0Cm

---------------------------------------------------

Good braised pork noodles (moo thoon)....before the fried chicken place, not long after the curve. On the expensive side at 50 baht.

Nope--i keep my shoes on and my ipod plugs in ears---not a frenchman--though i may a raspberry beret--the kind u find in a 2nd hand store!!! im from the states(blush)...

the mushroom stems? dark brown?...i would ask that glassy eyed gal to put the moo dang and shrooms on all my food---(hey that stupid farang wants the stuff for noodles on his veggies--??!!)

after enjoying the shrooms and unsuccessfully flirting with "ming" i found them in the city by cm gate

can pm me as they only have small stock and they have the moo dang and other glutens as well !!!

I think that dish occupies the niche that burgers do for yanks..... greasy, filling, familiar, comfort food.
