IN Channel to air on True Visions 90, 21 Sept

Bangkok, September 18th, 2012 – IN Channel, the newest cable TV station, announced at a press conference today that it’s ready to rock Thailand’s television industry on channel 90 of True Visions, Thailand’s largest pay TV platform, with a variety of content in travel, health, and entertainment.

The idea ignited from the visionary Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, one of the country’s forefront tycoons, who wishes to create an English television station as a medium to showcase and promote Thailand in becoming a center for tourism as well as a quality health destination in conjunction with the consolidation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.

Names behind the making of IN Channel begin with M.L. Nandhika Varavarn as the Managing Director of THN Network Co. Ltd. She’s widely known in business circles for her extensive experience as the corporate communication head at Bangkok Airways for over 30 years. She’s now wearing two hats after founding this TV channel. By her side are veteran showbiz executive Byrd Kulpong Bunnag, formerly of Fox International (Thailand), and Utt Asda Panichkul, famous MTV Asia host, who used to be based in Singapore, but has now returned to Thailand permanently and has joined the team as Director of Creative and Content. Moreover, a team of news professionals also comes together under the same roof at IN Channel.

The “Inspire. Create. Live.” tagline refers to all aspects of living life to its fullest. IN Channel’s viewer base are Thais who, with middle to high disposable incomes, have their own way of enjoying life and look for trendy, out-of-the-box TV content. The average age of our target audience ranges between 20-45 years old. The channel’s content also aims to attract expats and tourists, alike.

“We’re all very excited with the launch of our channel because we’re an English television station in Thailand with variety content unlike any other. Besides our own shows, we are also acquiring a selection of quality shows from overseas. We aim to attract Thai viewers, whose lifestyles are about living life in a creative way. That is what sets us apart from others. On top of that, our production standard is carved out to be in line with other regional players as our aim is to be a quality Thai television network with a regional flare, particularly when the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) takes shape three years from now,” mentioned M.L. Nandhika.

Mr. Ong-Ard Prapakamol, Chief Commercial Officer at True Visions, expressed on the new channel launch that “I’m delighted to welcome IN Channel as a part of the True Visions’ platform. I truly believe that viewers will benefit a great deal from the channel’s content that is different from existing stations as IN Channel has it all, from news to entertainment, particularly for all True Visions subscribers on a free view basis,” said Mr. Ong-Ard.

The overall content of IN Channel consists of 30% news. Travel, health and entertainment make up the other 70%. Broadcasting around the clock, the programs are as follows:

About time there was English language but don't like the travel stuff, this is 'just' okay. Base it more towards English language Thai and Farang who are interested in Business, Movies, Current Affairs...

Looks like more middle-of-the-road tedium to add to the dozens of channels of twaddle which this cable operator spews out at exorbitant fees.

So will they employ intelligent front people who speak English fluently and naturally, regardless of social and financial standing, or follow Radio Thailand's policy of hiring airheads with good connections who can pay tea money for the job but speak English through a mouthful of marbles.

Wonderful! Yet another channel whose programming content will show us exclusively how fantastic, wholesome, always smiling and thoroughly blissful this country is.

Who wouldn't need another show about Thai cooking (actually it's 2) and another about Thai fashion and another about Thai travel destinations (actually it's 3) and another to update us on Thai trends and, and, and...

And who could resist the morning news show "Rise & Shine, Thailand" with its "fresh news", whose coverage, frankly, sounds just as blissful as that of all the other shows.

NOT ONE SINGLE program that seems to critically deal with real issues. Or have I missed something?

Yup, quite the "visionary" that Prasarttong-Osoth bloke... I mean, who else would come up with the revolutionary idea of yet another drivel-driven TV channel...?

I am a little confused here.

How does this:

More programs from international, well known content providers i.e. Endemol with the following programs: Gok’s Fashion Fix, America’s Most Smartest Models, Top Secret Recipe; Snog, Marry, Avoid; Ton of Cash, Under 18 Under the Knife, Young Doctors, Undercover Dads. From Fremantle: Everyday Health, Grow Your Own Drugs, Grow Your Own Christmas, Bring Your Husband To Heel, Sex Inspectors, America’s Toughest Jobs, the Emeril Lagasse Show. From World Wide Entertainment: Landmarks, Underwater World for Kids, Explore, Zoo Babies, Desire, Globe Trotting, and more.

equate to this:

visionary Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, one of the country’s forefront tycoons, who wishes to create an English television station as a medium to showcase and promote Thailand

Oh, sorry, I just noticed "Grow your own drugs".

Yep I will wait and have a quick look, but I'm not holding my breath. Firstly news reporting in Thailand is an absolute joke as there will never be IMHO in depth analysis and expose of what is happening. But, lets just wait and see.

Good to see the return of Ae – Patcharee Raksawong and Fai – Dolsinee Krittiyapimolporn as anchors and

commentators on the "Rise and Shine" morning news programme.

They gained a wide following and a fan page on Facebook when they presented the English-language Morning Focus

press review on Channel 11 for 18 months up to February this year. Totally fluent in English and with a wicked

sense of humour, it will be a joy to see them back. I hope they are given the freedom to speak their minds and acreative producer.

Unfortunately the rest of the programming looks overly heavy on "lifestyle" and we know what that usually means.

No problem. This channel is obviously not for you ... so you don't have to watch it.

Seems to me that Mr. Prasarttong-Osoth also owns Bangkok Hospitals Group and Bangkok Airways btw.
