Has anyone applied for a general visit visa in the past month?

If so how long did it take.

I know they say 15 working days, last year I did it, was completed in 48 hours.

Thanks

My wife's UK family visit took 20 working days this year. We went to VFS on 22/8, and received the visa yesterday. We sent an email to VFS after the 15 working days, and that seemed to kick them into life.

I have edited the title for you.

I note what Paul from TVE says, and he's one of the experts, the UKBA are saying that they have a backlog of work because of the Student Visas, I suspect this is having a knock on effect on all applications.

Thank you.

Guess I'll have to change my flights.

The UK love costing British people money.

Wonder why so many Brits are struggling and in debt.

Sorry but why are you buying tickets for a visitor that has not yet been granted a VISA? Am sure that on the UKBA, VFS and Embassy websites they tell you not to purchase a ticket until you have the Visa., or do you mean you will be flying here to accompany her back to the UK?

I'm in Thailand and have been for almost 7 months. We returned from england on return flights.

My wife has been back to the UK twice. I know what they say at the UKBA. Last years tourist visa took 48hours.

So why did you buy flights without first having a visa? Have you checked the conditions of your tickets? And why do you blame the government for costing people money, when it clearly states that you should not buy tickets before the issuance of a visa?

sorry but was asked a question so answered it.

If you had read my last post I had already explained!

I have been in Thailand with my wife and child nearly 7 months. We already had flights booked when we returned here.

We had some disappointment with a settlement visa that's another story (which cost me 42,000 baht hence government). So we have applied for tourist visa.

If no answer tomorrow I will change the flights.

Thanks

Coming and pretty much living here 7 years, it's not the first time I've changed my flights. That's why I fly with emirates, they are the only airline that your ticket has a 1 year lifeline.

Sorry but your comment was "we returned to Thailand on return tickets".

To the point, you are going back to the UK for five months and your wife is applying for a tourist visa, which she is not actually using for the correct purpose, you are actually having her live there, do you not think that the application will be flagged as you have previously applied for settlement and been refused?

I wish all guys luck who want to take their wives to their home countries, I would love to, I hate those who say my great grandfather was half English I want to go to England to live, and actually do.

With respect, had you listened to the advice you received here from Visas Plus and ThaiVisaExpress instead of the bad advice your agent gave you, then you would not have wasted a settlement visa fee.

I think that you are on dodgy ground with this visit application.

She has been in the UK with you for some time as a visitor.

Returns to Thailand and applies for settlement; application refused.

Presumably she has appealed against the refusal.

Very soon after this she applies for another visit visa.

I hope that you, or rather she, provided some strong evidence to convince the ECO that she is not trying to use this visit visa to bypass the settlement rules and that she will, indeed, return to Thailand within the required time.

These things happen in life, and you have to move on.

We chose not to appeal against the visa.

I am going back to full time employment which exceeds the financial requirements.

I do not want to be separated from my family as I'm sure you all can understand. We have lived together since the birth if our son, half in England and half in Thailand.

Yes I took wrong advice, the funniest thing was (well it wasn't really that funny) he left my wife's bank statements on from 18 months ago. aswell as other outdated information.

I'm the fool I should have done this on my own like I have done in the past. And taken advice in preparation.

Luckily I didn't pay my agent, though I did pay the embassy.

Well upto date news. The embassy called my wife's number today, but said it didn't work hmmm. They then sent emails to both of us asking to speak to me. Replied and yet to receive the phone call. Hopefully they will call on Monday. Hopefully it's good news, as the last 6 weeks, have possibly been the worst I have ever known!

Maybe I'll win the euro millions tonight. :)))).

Thanks

The two times my wife had been to England she stayed near enough 6 months.

The visa is valid for 6 months, there is no rule that says you can't stay for the duration.

Only that you don't overstay.

I have read about people on here who have taken there wife back 6/7 times for 6 months a year on tourist visas.

What you say is true, however the purpose of tourist visas is to be a tourist not to live in the country. Like 7 by 7 says you may be treading on dodgy ground here.

Do you really know the consequences? Did you know that a ban of 10 years could be given in the event of giving false information.

I hope it all goes well for you, and I mean that, but maybe others reading this thread should be aware that it can go pear shaped.
