thanks for the reply...so is the Amora a hotel ?

i will tell them to go into the city and walk south from the Amora then...and take a look.

sorry about the spelling...of Chiang mai...

Sorry, yes it's the Amora Hotel, eight or ten floors, right on the moat, 100 meters from Thapae Gate (North side).

If you would increase your budget a little bit you could get the special promotion for locals at the Shangrila Hotel--I think it is about 2800 baht a night includeding a buffet breakfast. There is a lovely pool for the kids as well. It is located on Chang Klan road south of the night bazaar.

Other hotels in the tourist area are the Centara Dungtawan, the Pornping Hotel, The Plaza Hotel, and their rates and promotions vary.

You could also check availability and prices on last minute websites like Agoda.

The Dungtawan at the foot of Loi Kroh would be a good bet, Loi Kroh and Nigh Bazar..

Mercure hotel is excellent for a family @ 850bt per room per night .... has Tops supermarket next door for snacks and easy walk or tuk tuk anywhere in old city.

You must book and pay ONLINE to get that room rate and can request adjoining rooms on a non-smoking floor. Rooms are HUGE, quiet and well appointed. You could sleep 6 people in their super jumbo kingsize beds!

Another with good rates in Nimmenhaemin area is the Victoria Nimmen - prices from ~600 Bt in the old wing although new building isn't dear.... see photo below.

I thought the Amora was closed for renovation?
