You can do it yourself.

Just be sure you have proof of having 800K in the bank by way of letter from your bank (plus copies of bank pages) or a letter from your embassy proving income of 65K baht monthly income.

You will need copies of your passport photo page, entry/permit to stay stamps and copy of TM6 departure card.

You will need completed TM86 (download Application for Change of Visa (TM.86 print two sided) and photo for form.

Thanks, I have a lease contract for my condo that extends for another 11 months so I think that should work. If I go to the immigration office for the first step O transfer, will I need an legal help locally??

I would prefer to do it myself if it's simple enough, but I'm just concerned with the language issue.

No language issue most of the officers speak reasonable english.

Thanks eyebee! I think that is the main cause of my mistake in this case. I assumed that I still had reentry rights.

Do not feel like you are the only one many posts here about the same situation or similar. Go thru the many post here and read them do not skem them. It is in your own best interest to understand this process and know the law.

Hi guys,

I went to immigration today and got the O visa process started. It wasn't perfect (they made me go downstairs and update my bank book to today even though I updated it Thursday), but it was better than I expected.

I have one more question. I want to get a multiple rentry permit for the term of the one year extention. Do I need to apply for that at the time I apply for the 1 year extension on my new O visa? I should pick up the 1st 90 day O visa on October 19, and I want to be sure I am planning for the reentry permit properly.

Thanks again for all the help!!!!!

If you need to travel before you get the one year extension a single re-entry would be what you want - it is only valid for your current permitted to stay stamp time. Once you get the one year extension of stay you would want to get a mutli re-entry permit if you planned to make more than about 3 trips during the year or if not easy to obtain later for unexpected extra trips.

Having read the entire thread the financial proof aspects of applying for a change of visa status from the 30 Day Stamp to the Non-Immigrant O Visa is the one area that might be emphasized a bit more. From my reading and the OP's last comment about updating his bank book it should be stated that one would need their financial proof in the form of a notary or bank book to apply for the Non-Immigrant O Visa! Correct?

Not to change the subject but since my retirement visa expired similar to the OP and I do have dependents in Thailand this quote from a page seems to be another option to the retirement visa:

Extension Based on Support of a Dependant

For holders of a non-immigrant type 'O' visa, who support a Thai national dependant (child), then it is possible to extend the visa annually. However, conditions do apply. Firstly, the applicant needs to be named on the birth certificate of the child. Secondly, with the applicant, the second parent, or a combination of both parties, must be able to show a sum of 400,000 in a Thai bank, deposited 3 months prior to applying for the extension, or be able to prove either an individual or joint income of 40,000 Baht per month." Hi Jeff,

When i went in to change my visa from the 30 day tourist visa to the nonimm O for the purpose of retirement I needed financial proof at that time. I also needed a passport photo, copies of all pages of my bankbook, copies of my passport including all thailand entries and exits, and a confirmation letter from my thai bank regarding my account.

I think financial proof could be in the form of a notarized letter from your embassy or proof of deposit in a thai bank. Since I have been in Thailand for over a year, I used the thai bank book method.

That would not be my interpretation of the rules. A parent must show 40,000 a month OR 400,000 in the bank. in the case both parents are foreigners both must meet the requirements. There is no option to combine.

Agree with Mario.

There is also no need to deposit the money 3 months before application.

(5) In the case of a parent, one of parents must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit of not less than 400,000 baht for expenses within a year.

On second reading it seems right that in case of two foreign parents of a Thai national, only one has to meet the finacial requirements, but income/money can not be combined.

For retirement application for change of visa/obtaining non immigrant entry proof of being able to meet retirement financials is required (but it does not have to be in account for any amount of time). When you obtain extension several months later the financials will again have to be proven and meet any in account time requirement.

As for the quote on dependent financials it is false information. See police order 777/2551 and 303 for correct requirements as below:

(5) In the case of a parent, one of parents must have an average

annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a

money deposit of not less than 400,000 baht for expenses within

a year.

In other necessary circumstances, The Immigration

Commissioner or Deputy of Immigration Commissioner may

approve on case to case basis.
