PATTAYA:--On Thursday a press conference was held at Banglamung Police Station led by the new Chonburi Provincial Police Commander who announced the arrest of seven individuals in two separate cases.

Police Major General Katcha, who is known to specialize in drug suppression, began by confirming the arrest of two men, who are thought to be part of a gang of four, accused of stealing batteries installed at mobile phone transmitter stations around the Pattaya area. Representatives from all the major mobile phone companies, AIS, TRUE and DTAC reported multiple cases of theft from locations around the city to Police.

Investigations led officers to arrest two suspects, Khun Suwit aged 28 and Khun Suwat of the same age at an undisclosed location in Banglamung. Two other suspects were able to make their escape. They were caught in possession of four of the batteries worth 10,000 Baht each which the suspects claimed they would sell to second-hand shops for 15 Baht per kilo, a claim which Police do not believe. They suspect they were stealing to order for a gang known to sell the batteries in Bangkok.

The second case saw the arrest of 5 people and the combined seizure of 395 Yabba Tablets and 0.9g of Crystal Methamphetamine. The arrestees are thought to be members of a well-organized drug distribution network operating in Pattaya.
