Cambodian Visas

Featured Replies

Yes, it is me and another silly question. We are going to Cambodia next week and I wondered if anone had an opinion on whether it is better to get a visa before we go or on arrival. Some friends are going to the embassy in Bangkok to prebuy it. I can't decide. Help me.

thank you

Pre-Buy

actaully Camby Visa is too easy to do at the border

but i heard that , there are some agencies around Khao Sarn Road, that you can do visa for Camby also

Pre-purchase at the Cambo embassy.

When you have the time, it is always better, to get a visa in advance.

Especially, when arriving by air, you might have half the plane's passengers in front of you, applying for the visa. When you get your's finally glued into your passport, you got all the others

again in front of you, at the immigration counter. :o

Get one in Bangkok, embassy on the corner across from Lumpini park. Drop it off in the morning, pick it up in the afternoon.

I have seen plenty of scamming corrupt officials at the borders, do it in Bangkok and pay the correct fee with no hassles. Walk past that awful mob at the airport and out the door into a place that will make you appreciate Thailand for the truly wonderful place it is.

Pre buy at USD 20.- .

Pre buy at USD 20.- .

Will they also take 800 baht? Or is it another screw-job like the visas issued at certain land borders if you don't have US greenbacks?

Depends entirely on what's most convenient for you. The Cambodian "visa" is more accurately described as an entrance fee, it's that easy to get. The only downside of getting it on arrival is the wait. But you have to contrast that with how much time it would take you to go to the Embassy in Bangkok. If you live in or have reason to go to Bkk anyway, may be more convenient to get it there, but if it woul involve a special trip, get on arrival. Bring a passport photo with you.

Not sure but I think tourist visa has gone up from $20 to $25. If coming overland, they charge in Thai Baht and at an unfair rate so you pay the equivalent of a bit more.

Last time I was there ( admittedly about a year ago ) they were asking for $20 or 1000B at the embassy.

Anyone been there more recently?

I went by air not too long ago and I found it extremely easy getting the visa. Just hop off the plane and get in line at the counter. Hand them your passport and wait a few minutes as it slides down the line where they give it back to you and you hand them the cash ($25 US). Took maybe an extra 15 minutes, but it seemed like the whole plane opted for this method.

Crossing the border may be another story, but if I fly there again I'll definitely do visa on arrival. Fighting traffic during working hours to the embassies in BKK is just too much hassle.

Got one this week, one day service. Sent it over by messenger and had it returned the same day. They are charging 1100 baht now, that $25 at some terrible exchange rate but I did not have the US laying around, mai pen rai.

if you are flying ... jsut get it upon arrival. Really ... hel_l just get it at the border of you are going overland too. There is little hassle and the time you spend waiting lets people clear customs in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.

(It's really not worth the time/effort at the embassy in BKK)
