Hi all,

the daughter of my wife's sister lives with us now since two years.

Her sister run away from her husband and other problems and shows up every few months ocassionaly but have no further interest in her daugther which is now four years old.

We raise her like our own kid and we want to legally adopt her, her parents are willing to agree.

Anyone who have done that already and can give us some advice / starting points ?

A thought:

You know for sure, that it is the daughter of the sister of your wife?

I mean, you checked her papers, and found the name of her sister as mum on it, not the name of your wife, right?

Wouldn't be the first time, to get the own daughter back into the new life with the Farang husband.

There are only few Thai ladies, not caring their kids at all!

no worries on that mate, my wife and I are married since 10 years, I know her sister and her husband quite well, also all other family members (actually lived with them for quite some time)

Good to hear.

But not every man is knowing the wife from before the 'niece' got born.

Many times, it's the kid of the 'brother'.

No offense, good luck.

none taken, believe me, to make a decision to adopt a child is something you don't take lightly - i consider it a life-changing, long term commitment that have to be thought through very well in all aspects before you agree to it.

Unfortunately I have no Knowledge that would help you but posted to say how glad I am that somebody WANTS to help a child and I am sure that she will be treated as one of your family.

Be proud and ignore the knockers.

Both parents agree, the child agress and you are married and the wife agrees it is possible. But social services might want to insist on a international adoption, so the child could also take your nationality. That makes it a longer process as the adoption then must be done according to the laws of your own country AND Thai law.

But this question pops -up now and then and it shouldn't be too difficult. Believe adoptions are dealt with by social services in Bangkok.
