1 Day Visit To Laos

Featured Replies

I'm planning a 1day visit to Laos. I will not stay overnight there, just visit for the day. I will stay in Nong Khai.

I have read that when re-entering Thailand only 15 days will be given. This obviously applies to a tourist visa but I have a type o non immigrant visa.

Will I only be granted 15 days on re-entry to Thailand?

I am a UK national.

Thanks.

Visit Thai immigration and get a Re-Entry Permit, baht 1,000 for a single, baht 3,800 for a multiple. With that, when you return to Thailand, you'll be stamped in to the end of your current period of stay.

Be sure to note on the Thai Arrival card where it says "visa number:" enter as follows:

the Re-entry permit number, the write "Re-Entry Permit" in large letters.

Absent a Re-Entry Permit, all you'd get is the 15-day chop.

Thanks for advising about re-entry permits.

I have been doing some reading on the subject. I appears that if an individual is in possession of a multiple entry visa then the re-entry permit is not required (which makes sense and why pay the extra for the multiple in the first place otherwise ).

If your visa is single entry then the re-entry permit is needed, otherwise your visa will be cancelled.

As I have the multiple, I can leave and return without the need for extra paperwork.

Thanks.

Since you have a multiple entry visa you will get the normal 90 day entry allowed by your visa. But be sure you put your visa number on the Thai arrival card and check that permitted to stay stamp is correct.

The 15 days only applies if you do not have a visa.

He doesnt say that he has a multiple entry non-O (or even that the visa is still within its validity period if he seeks to use it again). ThanyaburiMac assumes he has a single entry non-O, again he doesn't tell us that either.

So, he first has to tell us whether he has a single entry non-O or a multiple entry. In ether case it would be helpful to know when his non-O visa expires.

[Just my take - I don't claim to be an expert, just a multiple-O entry user myself who has crossed borders mid-times; so feel free to blow me out of the water if I'm wrongly casting aspersions on the early advice]

Apologies if wasn't clear. I do have a multiple entry type o non immigrant visa which is valid until September 2013.

My wife has since been in contact with a tour operator that specializes with day trips over to Laos and they have confirmed that I don't need a re-entry permit and I will be granted 90 days when I enter back into Thailand. I will ensure that my visa number is clearly stated.

Just exit Thailand through the departure point and cross the bridge. Get stamped into Laos, get a ticket for the bus back to the Thailand side of the bridge, go through immigration and you will get stamped in for another 90 day. All very easy. If you are going to get a visa on arrival at Laos, take a picture with you and fill out the form the officer at window 3 gives you plus the arrival/exit form. This usually takes about 30 minutes for me.

1500bht or $35.
