City pays contractors for continuing water system work

PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s permanent secretary handed over more of the city’s 159.4 million baht budget to upgrade underground pipelines in hopes of resolving long-running water-distribution problems.

Pakorn Sukhonthachat distributed the 15th and 16th of 50 installments the city plans to lay new pipe and widen canals to solve issues with getting water to neighborhoods uphill from reservoirs and treatment plants that experience water shortages even thought the city has plenty to spare.

One minute it is the pipes, then it is the pumps, then it is the reservoirs being inadequate...the story of why there is no water coming out of taps (apparently, getting more frequent and affecting more areas) is probably rather simple: unchecked/unplanned development without due regard to infrastructure. Just my 2 cents worth.

Never had water issues until last year. And we were told to consider ourselves lucky because the new hotel nearby have to transport the water in themselves vis a vis endless procession of lorries. Apparently they were told that the water authority cannot guarantee water to them but the city approved the project anyway.

I don't know if you call it incompetence, greed, sheer stupidity or just plain laziness?
