There are visas to visit available - the non immigrant O visa. There are 60 day extensions available to extend visit. There are one year extensions of stay available for support and being legal parent (birth certificate does not prove you are legal father).

You can get visas and extensions of stay for having a Thai child.

But immigration does not recognize your name being on the birth certificate as proof unless you are married to the mother. It requires getting a court order stating that you are the father plus it should also show that you have custody to the child.

A one year extension requires you to have 400K in a Thai bank account or 40K monthly income.

I just got a one year mutable Non O in the USA. All i needed was Birth certificate and a copy of passport. I was told just the birth certificate would do.. No marriage Documents. I am not married to the mother. No bank statements needed. Paid the 200 dollar fee and one photo and application.. Mailed it in and had it back in 5 days

If you are not in Thailand it is much easier. If you are in your home country call the local Thai Consulate and ask them what you need,,,

Good luck...

Thai consulates have been told to thighten up and not to accept only the birth certificate as proof. Some consulate still issue with only a BC, but don't expect it to be everywhere.

The paperwork/financials are for one year extensions of stay done within Thailand (you never have to leave Thailand). Visas to visit are much easier to obtain but do not allow more than a 90 day stay and are becoming harder to obtain unless married.

ok thankyou for your advice. i am married to thai, mmy daughter is thai, i am on birth cert. basically i can stay in thailand for 5 years say and only pay for my non 0 visa based on child support and married to thai. and not have to leave thailand and fly back to uk to make application in hull.

is that correct. yes / no .

again many thanks

You can not obtain visas in Thailand - you extend a visa entry and then continue to do with with proof of financials and meeting the conditions of that extension of stay each year. So if you do that you will not have to leave Thailand of visit Hull or anywhere else for a visa and can do this until you expire. You must have to meet conditions each year and not travel out of Thailand without obtain a re-entry permit first and be here at the renewal time each year.

Extension of stay requirements are contained in police order 777/2551 (Google will find).
