Recommendation Of Beach/island Getaway For Like 3 Days (First Timer)

So, I'm trying to "fall asleep to the sound of the sea" (as some other post I read eloquently put it). Um, so what place can I go to that is not too touristy (I have nothing against tourists, its just that this isn't a "sex trip"), and won't have too many people trying to scam me. Also, I don't want it too much off the beaten path, because I'll be caring for someone else (my girlfriend) and I don't want to have difficulty navigating the land. Please let me know your recommendation. Thanks.

Ban Phe, just east of Rayong.

Miles of white sand, pretty much deserted monday thru friday afternoon, gentle shelving sand seabed, food right on the beach.

A few questions: What time of year? What's your budget? Air or land transport? How long is your vacation?

A few good options would be Phuket, Krabi, Samui (or Tao/KPN), Koh Kood/Mut, Lanta, Hua Hin and places south of there. Lots of options.

Also explain what you want to do...ie....snorkelling....diving....relaxing by the beach....romantic getaway.....bit of nightlife perhaps.....total isolation....etc.....would help us narrow down the options for you.

Cha-am,

Only 175 km. from Bangkok, 5 km long beach, not to many farang tourist, only saturday and sunday a lot of Thai tourist.

Small and medium hotels, from baht 600.- till baht 2000.- a night.

Many nice restaurants, not much nightlife, but there is some live music, and many trips to do.

I'm more interested in relaxing/romantic getaway. I don't mind taking a plane from BKK to wherever this beach is. I'd be going some time between Nov. 4th and Nov. 15 for at least 2-3 days. I'd be going with my girlfriend (She wants to go more than I do), so I don't want the prostitutes, scammers, etc. if I can avoid them. I'm not thinking about the budget right now, but obviously I don't want to spend the majority of my funds. Also, total isolation sounds cool, but I will not have a car and since I'm traveling with someone else, I'd rather not get too far off the beaten path/non-English speaking area, but I'm scared we'd have the potential of getting lost. I'm also hoping we don't get bored. I don't swim also sad.png .

Koh Tan south of Samui.

Only reachable with local fishermen from Thong Krut.

7 bungalows on the Island, one restaurant.

Electric power only between nightfall and 10PM.

Sounds great! I'll have to try that some day.

Problem with a trip like this is the transportation will take up the better part of a day each way, right?

You can take the train to this place and it's got a fantastic beach. I spent a few days in that hammock in the pic. Wonderful:

head to Phuket and stay at one of the Lagana resorts

Easy to get to from Airport, ( plenty of direct flights form Bangkok Don Meung airport)

Beautiful beach, great food, no bar girls, great food, plenty to do on and off the land;

If you have $$ u will never be bored?

do u play golf, ever ridden an elephant? Like dinner shows, shopping?

ONLY downside is its full of tourists BUT if u have all the fears of getting lost, being ripped off etc u don't want be out in the sticks

10 mil tourists a year visit Phuket and many of us love living here.

November is the rainy season in Koh Samui/Koh Phanagan/Ko Tao so would give those 3 islands a miss

I always found Samet/Rayong to be the nice mix - nice beaches, resorts, restaurants off the beach - not to many scammers etc. But still have places with live music/cocktails/Beertowers/good food, to enjoy a good night out. And close enough to Bangkok, so you can just drive down there for a short weekend.

Pattaya/Na'klua/Jomtien: To many ladybars. Only go for weekend out with the guys.

Phuket: To much of everything: Ladybars, scammers, horrible people from the west on package tours, you name it...if it sucks, Phuket has it.

Samui: Too far for driving+ferry, hate BKAIR's monopoly and taximafia on the island+a good portion of people on package tours.

Islands close to Trat: Too far for driving there for a short weekend.

Moo Baan "Somchai" on deserted island: Too boring for my taste.

My guess is that "winter" is coming early this year - It's been real "high-season" weather the last week or so....

Koh Jum .....3o mins to the pier from Krabi airport and then 40 mins by local boat to the island . Perfect for a romantic getaway .

Koh Chang might be one option. One of the less crowded beaches. Easy to move around and tourist trappings still available. Bars are there as they are everywhere in Thailand, but it's up to you to choose the venue of your liking.

As for getting there .. overnight bus ?
