I advise my sister, PM Yingluck, because she's new, Thaksin tells Forbes

My excuses, I was at work today, fairly busy, no time to TV. By now 10PM, I'm not going to read all replies here. If my reply has been made (in a similar manner) or has been refuted, I do apologise. Still it does offer opponents a chance to emphasize their point of view wink.png

"I advise my sister because she's new"

I guess any previous comment on how experienced, fit for the job, etc., etc. made by others I may now safely ignore as the big boss himself confirmed that his sister (aka PM Yingluck of Thailand) is new to the game.

Who would have thought rolleyes.gif

A recent poll showed that the most liked politician in Thailand by far was Yingluck Shinawatra, followed closely by her brother Thaksin. That is news hard to swallow for most TV posters, but the political reality of Thailand. And no they weren't paid 500 Baht to participate in the poll.

Is Thaksin a politician ? He certainly isn't in Thailand.

That's obviously a BS poll.

Last I checked Thaksin wasn't in Thailand.

I take your point but the fact remains that Thaksin is not a Thai politician. It is indicative of the farce on display here that the populace think he is.

Does the poll say anything about Thaksin being in Thailand?

At times I think I can ignore certain perceived faults in Thai logic, but ManU? It may be that I'm of a somewhat older generation which still enjoyed watching local teams where players were not in the million 'valuta unit' league. The time some players were family members, all had fun, all up to the pub afterwards.

I guess the changes are part of progresss, unavoidable progress. How nice indeed sad.png

This explains Thailand's current misery as none of the two is actually a politician. One is a figurehead and the other a criminal on the run.

Pity a serious magazine like Forbes asks such naive questions and allows him a monthpiece to spew such nonsense half-truths, without asking more probing questions on the real reason he lives in Exile.

Do you think that he would stick around for 5 minutes if he was asked a difficult question?

I'd love to see him on Hard Talk, and not the cosy chat ones they do

Bet he is to much of a coward to appear in Hard Talk. He would have been grilled way beyond "well done"

"She is new." She has to call up Brother Number One to find out what to do. If this is so, how on earth can a country that takes itself seriously end up with her as Prime Minister?

It's an embarrassment to all thinking Thais, and they certainly made a point of that at the rally last Sunday.

Thaksin's interview has added more to the humiliation of the Thai people. And he has no idea of how outrageous his comments are.

Something's gotta give.

The people who voted in the PTP, knew in advance who they were voting in. Yingluck's brother. So no suprise here.

Remember Thaksin telling the BBC that he was through with politics, that enough was enough, he just wanted to retire?

Yet another lie by the fugitive from afar!

obviously he changed his mind like mark did.

Really? One having enough and wanting to play golf only and another stepping down. Yes, very, very similar apart from (topic wise) one advising his sister (the knowledgable one) who needs it and one just stepping down. Just contemplate on this for a moment and reports back to me tomorrow. Past 1AM I really have to go sleep now wai.gif

Here is the article in full LMAO.

Five pages of Q's and A's to leave you in no doubt about the turmoil going on inside this mans head! I love the very last para where he slags off the 'two English newspapers' in Thailand. Read and enjoy! it's not fair, it's not fair, it's not fair! Page 3 is particularly good!

Thanks for the article.

Actually the humiliation in the first instance is for Yingluck. He knows that the establishment is is prepared to live with Yingluck as the PM and the backing down from putting Jatuporn in the cabinet will have strengthened her position. So what better than to announce that she is under his direction, sorry advice, and publicly pull her down a notch.

It's got to be a severe loss of Face for Yingluck too,she must be fuming.

Why? I thought she was his puppet.....

I liked the bit about her( first order of buisness?) after being installed in 2011 was to restore his Thai Passport . nice of him to publicly thank her.

Thaksin is not shy talking about his behind-the-scenes role both in the party and in policy making, saying, "I am the one who thinks. Like our slogan during the campaign, Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai acts."

Now this should be interesting for PTP and Yingluck to respond to. Never underestimate Thaksin's ability to shoot himself in the foot.

He does that so often

If she is 'new' (by which I assume he means a political ingenue) then why choose her to be PM in the first place?

You wouldn't put a virgin in charge of a brothel.

If it wasn't her, it would have been her brother, Payup Shinawatra.

As she realized he's more of a misfit than even her, she finally relented on her opposition to being PM and agreed.

In the interview, Thaksin rebuts the accusation about not paying tax on the Temasek deal by saying there was no tax to pay - that there is no capital gains tax in Thailand.

Is this true, and if it is, how can he be accused of not paying tax in this particular transaction? I'm not familiar enough with the story so hoping those more knowledgeable can help.

Cheers

The 2006 sale of the Shinawatra family's share of Shin Corporation to Temasek Holdings caused great controversy in Thailand. The sale was in response to long-standing criticisms that the Shinawatra family's holdings created a conflict of interest for Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Criticisms of the sale focused on the allegations by Thaksin and a compliant government that the transaction was exempt from capital gains tax (as per Revenue Department and Stock Exchange of Thailand regulations - later determined by Thai courts not to be legal), the fact that the Thai company was sold to a Singaporean company, and the fact that the Thai law regarding foreign investments in the telecom sector had been amended just prior to the sale (although the amendment had been proposed since 2001). Thaksin's sale also impacted holdings, among other parties, of the Crown Property Bureau that has investment in the Siam Commercial Bank that held ShinCorp stock.

Mark resigned and said he would only return if the party would vote for him (wanted him to return)..

Please tell the truth.
