Port Authority of Thailand told to speed up its morph into a public limited company

Deputy Transport Minister Phoomtham Wetchayachai (ภูมิธรรม เวชยชัย) has ordered the Port Authority of Thailand to quickly change into a public company limited.

Mr. Phoomtham today handed down policy to the new committee in charge of the Port Authority of Thailand chaired by Admiral Sathiraphan Keyanond (สถิรพันธุ์ เกยานนท์), calling for transparency in work and erasing of the image of corruption that is currently the entity's image. A new governor of the Port Authority of Thailand would also have to be sought within 2 months. The committee will also have to rapidly continue the policy of privatizing the authority into a public limited company. The deputy transport minister admitted there is the problem of conflicts within the organization and he would like the committee to solve the problem.

Mr. Phoomtham disclosed that he has also told the authority to increase the efficiency of the water transportation system in accordance with the government's logistics policy. The regional cargo ports will be improved, with the vision that Thailand possess appropriate geographical attibutes.

Most importantly, the regional ports would help decrease the density at the Bangkok Port that currently handle 1.5 million containers per day even though its true capacity is just 1 million.
