Hello, I was wondering if its easy to get into the modeling industry in thailand and how we find real agencies there?

Most are, and plenty of individual scammers exist within the legitimate agencies, among the powerful customers, photographers etc.

You will need to decide how willing you are to submit to humiliation and exploitation in order to succeed, these definitely go with the territory in all parts of showbiz.

And don't kid yourself that it isn't very very hard work and usually very very low paying. The "big money" comes for most in catching the attention of a rich sugar daddy and perhaps even marrying one.

You should take charge of your own career in the early stage, hire a professional photographer to put your own portfolio together - head, body, and profile shots. Your initial goal is to get on the books of one of the top handful of successful agencies in the country, and if you don't know which ones those are that should be high on your to-do list.

Get out there and get involved in the local fashion scene, attend events, network on a personal level.

I tried it when I was much younger in North America and have to admit that what BigJohnnyBKK replied is correct. But, I haven't been in Thailand long enough to know what happens here. I would guess it is pretty much the same as everywhere.

In essence the same but in degree much worse here, young girls have little effective protection from genuine sexual harassment, other than what family and friends can provide through the clout of their connections.

Not to mention the much more prevalent "economic exploitation" from relative poverty.

But many ambitious women are willing to pay the price for such success, and it does indeed work out well for many, even if that's a very small percentage of those who start out with high hopes.

Obviously one of those loaded terms that many here would consider used too frequently.

Can't state with certainty whether it's more frequent here or not, but certainly there are fewer consequences for those trying it on, so I'd guess yes.

But to the extent you've got what it takes to be successful on your own merits, don't depend on gigs to pay for a roof over your head and act with confidence it shouldn't be much more than an annoyance. Use common sense to avoid dangerous situations of course, but attractive young girls know that already don't they?

I decided against it as they are not old enough. Strange though, I'd have let them do it when babies.

I've heard too many stories, and know people, that have been in this industry - the biggest problem I thing is drug addiction, with sexual harassment a close second.

Agree. A university/maid uniform, would be more appropriate.

Never know what`s going to turn up on there, also you can place a free ad for yourself in the employment wanted or services offered section.

Sexual harassment of young men is almost as prevalent as harrasment of young girls in this industry, and never arriving fees is another problem and not only in Thailand.
