Police to handle anti-govt demonstrators with crowd-control plan: Army chief

BANGKOK, Nov 19 - Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha said today that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has instructed police to prepare to use crowd-control plan ‘Korakot 52’ to handle Saturday’s planned anti-government rally, provided that there are no signs of violence.

He said security agencies are continuing to monitor the situation and the government is ready to use a special law if the situation turns violent. He urged the public not to be alarmed.

Meanwhile, a pro-government red shirt leader reaffirmed that the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) will not protest near the Royal Plaza, the venue of the Pitak Siam rally, to avoid any confrontation.

UDD leader Suporn Attawong, deputy secretary-general to the prime minister, said the Red Shirts will not gather near the Royal Plaza Saturday, but they may gather upcountry instead to avoid confrontation.

Mr Suporn said if any violence occurs this Saturday, it will be the work of a third party to create a disturbance and it is the responsibility of security agencies to control the situation.

The red shirt leader said that the UDD is ready to mobilise hundreds of thousands of its supporters to the capital within two hours if there is any attempt to topple the Yingluck government. (MCOT online news)

Errrr... so a civil war will be instigated if there is an attempt to oust the government?

What constitutes an attempt? A request for the PM to stand down? A call for new elections?

And how will these hundreds of thousands of UDD supporters counter that attempt?

Yeah right... two hours? so are they in the next street but will not counter demonstrate? And are the numbers any larger - the Reds failed last time miserably to get 5,000. As already said - this could well escalate into a civil war. Oh well - life in Thailand continues irrespective. I'm all for the monarchy to be reinstated (well almost). It has to be better than this garbage every few years.

Clearly this man knows nothing about traffic conditions in Bangkok. Busing in hundreds of thousands of people would take about 5 days given the gridlock most commuters suffer on a daily basis. They'd be stuck at the end of Bang Na trat, behind a Buses three deep picking up and dropping off passengers as the tanks roll in.

Unless of course the UDD plans to parachute in its supporters from a fleet of C-130s airborne over Bangkok.

Did all those red shirts die in vain? No lessons learned? All those Shinawatras and Damapongs heading up the Thai Police and no crowd control training? Two and a half years after the 2010 events?

Can not be! Surely not!

Somchai (in Udon) :"Quick , hook up the trailer to the Kubota rice tractor, I'll wake the boys up!"

Nop : "What's going on?"

Somchai : " Pitak Siam are protesting against the government."

Nop : " How long does it take to get to Bangkok?"

Somchai : " Can't be much more than 2 hours, can it?"

Korakot 52, a plan for the police to neglect their duties, and any pretense of neutrality, disappear from the scene and force the army to step in. I think we have seen it before.

Why is the Army chief explaining how the police will be handing an upcoming protest?

Oops - I forgot where I was for a moment.

I hope they haven't rostered the sergeant who delivers the M-79 grenades. He may have a prior engagement.

Any news on his court case?

Those yellow shirts want Khun Thaksin to serve his time, yet we don,t see their former leaders leading by example ,and doing a stretch. No its only Khun Thaksin that has done anywrong. Good for the Goose but not for the Gander.

He's probably being wildly optimistic. The police did nothing during the Red demonstration of 2009 & 2010 and they will undoubtedly do nothing this time as well.

If it's anything like around here, the BIB can't do anything unless you register a complaint, and that can't be done at the local office, it must be the one 20 kms away. When you get there, the only guy who takes complaints has just gone on his break, so you wait an hour for him to come back, 2 hours to get to the head of the queue, to find he doesn't speak English. They have one English speaker (just) who has just gone on his break, so you wait an hour...........................................

The same way the Rad Guard did in China, or the Kamer Rogue in Cambodia? Are the UDD the the Gestopo of the PTP? ph34r.png

The police took action against the Yellow shirts. The readon they did not take action against the Red shirts, could be Big Brother told them not to?

Let's hope that it is not the plan that they received from the distinguished gentlemen Abhisit and Suthep. Crow control according their definition is execution on the spot and many many snipers to stop people who get away from the life firing zones. An arm general who still believes that his bombscanners are top notch technology would certainly not be able to come up with a working plan himself.

Crow control is a red shirt job.

Surely, the correct mandate to give the police would be to maintain order and quell violence, regardless of which colour the perp is waving. It seems from reading this though, that the 'necessary action' has already been determined in line with what the PM's office 'expects' to happen.

Oh, and here we go again with the mysterious Third Party.

Yes, they will gather in Udon Thani on Friday instead.

Well that's OK then.

There's a democracy, har earned and fragile, and the Army take to the streets when there is a protest and invoke a special law that prevents people democratically protesting.

And the people are told not to worry.

But worry about what exactly? the fact that their hard earned democratic rights are being swept away by a coup crazed military dictatorship kept only in place as long as the pay offs are high enough, the public profile flattering enough and the nepotism strong enough to reward even their third cousin twice removed on their grandfather's side, who is currently serving 20 to life for his murder of 15 infant school children, ploughed down at a bus stop when he dropped the yaba tab into his lap.

Sounds about right.

But don't worry. The army won't be indiscrimantely shooting into the crowd at defenceless women and children. No. The media controlled publicity will explain that the women and children were carrying dangerous missiles made out of tap gai skewers, ice cream cones and the potentially lethal large foam hand that could be used to suffocate those soldiers who were only doing their duty.

The same duty that saw 80 killed when suffocated in a locked container they were being detained in. That suffocation just goes to show how lethal those foam hands can be. It wasn't the lack of air then and the baking temperature. No. It was the foam hands they were wearing that slipped over their air ways and cuased death by misadventure.

It seems that life and death in Thailand is not so muuch an adventure as a mis-adventure for any one foolish enough to venture onto the captal's streets and exorcise their democratic right to peaceful protest.

Armed with banners, ice creams, liver on a stick [a very small stick] is a riot waiting to happen, as every military General with the IQ of a mosquitoe and the same desire to draw blood at every opportunity.

At least we're grateful these generals are ignorant, backward, ill-educated thugs; imagine if they had brains. Then they'd be really dangerous and Magodishu [when is the next flight?] would seem as attractive as the Dordoigne in Spring.

Crow controls and Arm generals. We're talking about people and soldiers, not birds and limbs. Hope your information source is better than a scarecrow.
