Going in next Monday to immigration for additional nine months on a Non O visa, only got three months last time due to an address problem now solved. I assume they will give me the usual 30 days under consideration which means come back on December 27th. Problem is I want to go to Laos on Dec 14 and originally scheduled to come back to Thailand on Jan 4. Is this possible or do I have to return before the 27th but they never actually have the visa ready on the exact date they say anyway.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You fail to say what you are going to immigration for (they do not extend stays without reason but you have not stated yours but seem to have said you and wife are not Thai but no mention of child nationality or why you qualify for a longer stay). A normal extension of stay is for 12 months for most reasons.

Without knowing reason we can not know if you will be required to return at any set date or not but if you are so required then you must be here on that date. Although you can obtain a re-entry permit to allow travel/return that must be before that stated return date as that is the date put on re-entry permit.

Thanks lopburi3 for the help. Renewing a Non Imm O for husband wife both foreigners. We applied for the usual one year extension but because we moved we didn't have a letter from the governor of Nonthaburi so they gave us three months and told us to reapply for the additional nine when we got it. Now we have the letter and going in for the additional nine months. But forgot about the 30 day waiting and booked vacation plans. I am thinking you are right we will have to get back before the expiration date on the re-entry permit . Was wondering if anybody else had a situation like this, its a bummer during Christmas to have to come back early, but will do or ask immigration for some grace.

You still don't say what the extension is based on, which makes it hard to answer your questions.

Both foreigners and needing a letter from the governor suggest you are applying for an extension based on volunteering.

You will not get a 30 day under consideration, your extension will be given on the spot and with the letter from the governor should be 1 year.

Only when based on marriage to a Thai national is there an under consideration period.

Update - went to Nonthaburi immigration yesterday and they gave me the 30 day under consideration I was afraid they would so I had to change my flights to be back on the 25th, Christmas to go in and get the eleven additional months, real bummer, but nothing I can do.
