Does anyone know if a farang who lives in Thailand has to pay the overprised farang price at the nationalparks in Krabi? Normaly when i go some place around here or in Chonburi aera, i always show my Thai driver licens and pay the thai price.

Some farangs will say, " why complain about this" I do, because i am living here, and i speand all my money in Thailand. And ofcause i can pay a fee, a fee that is equal to who ever visit.

Thanks for the answer!

I paid 400 THB last time i was at the Emerald pool, withc is way to much. But i have to back to Krabi soon, as i get visitors from overseas. Normaly i avoid the greedy Thai people, but sometime you have to pay.

So the answer must be to get a good suntan before you go and hope you turn brown and not red.

But being serious I too get a little miffed by the two tier pricing especially when I live here and have a Thai driving licence. There really is no need for this as it will only deter people from visiting these places. But hey TIT and LOS.

Are you sure this a park rule or just the whim of the person you dealt with. I have visited National Parks all over Thailand and always paid the national price on display of DL. Must admit I have not visited a park in Krabi Provence so I cannot speak with any experience.

This is not the whim of one person, I never go to a national park here in Krabi because of this practise, and consequently none of my family go,even thought they are Thai.

I suspect that the authorities are not concerned about us few ex-pats,as they know that the Many tourist who visit the parks, have no idea of this practise and if they did know the chances are they wouldn't mind.

correct

Had it at emerald pool and khao pom bencha they are not even interested in discussing it with you and appear pretty arrogant to me.

Really don't know what's happening with krabi and ao nang these days ,we sent some of our customers out to the 4 islands yesterday they came back complaint that the islands are just full of rubbish everywhere, and these are the same islands they want you to pay 200 bht to step foot on if you are in a private boat as said the greed is unreal.

Yes, i was speaking a lot with the lady at the Emerald pool. and my gf spoke with her as well. She said that a 5 year drivers license is no evidence of living in Thailand.

So if they need evidence of living in thailand. It might be a good idea to get a addres registration from Immigration.

I know from Koh Samet, farang with driver licens will pay the Thai price of 20 THB.

It is sad that Thailand still practice this racist price system.

As said before, i do not complain if all people are charged the same, and if the money go to maintain the parks.

Seems to be spreading - now have to pay falang price in NPs in Chiang Mai as well. Thai license made no difference last Sunday at Jaeson NP. I hope these outrageous prices will reduce attendance/revenues from falang. It is cheaper to visit a National Park in Australia! (Aside from the fare to get there....)

Oh come on you guys, this dual fee goes on in many countries ... (Canada and USA for sure) .... you'll pay a lot more than 200 baht too... sad.pngcoffee1.gif

Oh thats all right then it happens elsewhere so no worries

In all honesty its not really a problem for tourists to pay 200 bht for a one time visit, however the problem arises when you live in the area you may want to visit the park quite often with your thai family and friends if you were going say 4 times a month you would have to be stupid to agree that its fine for yourself to pay 10 times as much.

I don't know about the USA and Canada, but in the UK everybody pays the same.be they British or not, white or black,Christian or other faith, different gender or whatever. In fact a

number of years ago the British authorities made a suggestion that foreigners should be allowed into state museums for free, the idea being to encourage tourism. This idea was quickly shouted down, and quite rightly so.While at that time black people were being discriminated against in the USA just because of their colour.

Is it about the perceived wealth of foreigners as against Thais, well if this is so,what about the very rich Thais such as Boonchai Bencharongkul, they should be paying even more then most Farangs.

Is it the same as in some States in the USA that charge a higher amount to an out of state visitors, the reason being that the State residents pay taxis for those facilities,if so what about the many Farang ex-pats who are paying tax into the Thai system.

The Zoo and Water Park in Korat has the same 2 tier pricing and Thai drivers licence not accepted as proof of living here. My wife did her best to argue the point but got nowhere. So another place to steer clear off even though it was a nice place to go to..

No to mention the fact that when there is dual-pricing they use Thai numerals to hide what they're doing.

I really have never liked this, but have always paid, as I wanted to see the once-beautiful places.

It's clearly obvious none of the exorbitant fees are going back into the local area, to maintain them and keep them clean. It's this that makes me want to stay away from the national parks and busier islands. Sadly, with friends and family over sometimes that's unavoidable.

I really wish that when people bring up dual pricing in The States that they take the time to explain how it works. Dual pricing in The States is typically based on area of residence. Example - You live in San Francisco so you pay the local/discount price to enter the SF zoo. How do you prove that you live there... Show your driver's license and you are good to go. Same for Florida, Hawaii and Nevada. I mention these states as they have a pricing scheme which charges more for non-residents. In Thailand the price you pay is dependent on the mood of clerk at the window.
