Finally tried out the new CR taxi service yesterday. Brand new car, pleasant enough driver very limited english but he knew his way around very well, no problems with meter. Called and they picked me up near big C and drove me for about twenty minutes for 80 baht plus they charge 20 baht for telephone call pickup...so total of 100 baht. All in all a bargain.

A pleasant experience and sure beats tuk tuk or trying to figure out songtaeows.

Not sure if you can call one for airport pick ups or not?

Flew into CR airport last night about 9 pm. Took car from airport car service counter to doi hang for 500 baht which is 200 baht more than few years ago. As we were pulling out of the front entrance of the airport i noticed two of the new metered taxis sitting there with several thai people headed towards them with their bags in tow. I suspect the taxi meter from the airport would be about 150 baht max as opposed to the 500 baht from the "car service".

Anyone know if you can actually call a metered taxi to pick you up in the airport proper, or if you have to call to arrange to pick you up at the entrance OR if they are just starting to sit at the entrance now to meet the flights?

I suspect if they are starting to sit at the front gate they will pretty quickly get a LOT of customers with little or no luggage willing to walk less than five minutes to save several hundred baht.

The taxi service is good.....yet sometimes no answer and one occasion a wait of over an hour for a taxi.

There aren't enough taxis at night!

The new metered taxis aren't allowed inside the airport by the thugs which currently provide transport which is why they wait outside, similar story at Central Plaza where the Songthaew & TukTuk drivers don't allow Taxis to pick up patrons from outside.

I had just flown in from normally super expensive singapore and paid $15 usd for 30 min taxi ride to SIN airport...then arrive in CR and pay $17 for 25 min ride CR airport to Doi Hang. Next time i will call the new meter taxi guys and walk 50 meters to the gate. My guess is the meter rate would be less than 150 baht. Seems the airport car service guys might get a little competition which naturally means they will likely just raise their prices even more. Would be nice if the airport powers that be would simply break the monopoly at the airport and allow any/all taxis and tuk tuks to pick up / drop off within the airport but obviously someone is getting a nice cut to keep competition out. Not unique to CR of course but would be nice if the word airport did not seem to be always synonmous with the words "gouge and hassles"

interesting to hear that the Taxis in CR obviously have no problem to use the meter, when in CM they will NEVER do that.... but good news of course

Still new, wait until a few years down the line, they would be just like CM taxi, "no meter...charge by trip fare !"

Well let's be happy that they are fairly priced and pleasant and polite for now.

Befitting a magic place and surrounding area! :)
