sburdic Posted November 27, 2012 Share Posted November 27, 2012 Hi everyone, today after many years, a DNA test, fingerprints, several family interviews, a couple of undocumented "no-receipt" fees, lots of trips to the MFA, Suan-Pluu, Chaeng Wattana several amphurs, and lots of documentation fees I became an officially documented Thai citizen today. Super thank you to Samran, Arkady, Mario2008, lopburi3, bapak, submaniac, and everyone I forgot to mention. My wife and I are heading out to BKK tomorrow for the passport. Since I have a copy of the Tabien Baan which I'm registered into, and my new Thai ID card it seems like it should be pretty easy. One question though: my Thai ID card looks exactly the same as my wife's with one exception. Her ID starts with a 3, mine starts with a 5. What is the difference? Congratulations on obtaining Thai citizenship. As for the list of numbers, is this serious? Number 6 because one of your parents isn't 'Thai'? You're not a real Thai? It sure is. The sheer level of racism and documentation of one's genetic roots in regards to your level of 'Thai' being is truly astounding. Congrats, OP. Mac I doubt the Yellow Book numbering system is the same as the Thai ID card numbering system. My Yellow Book number is only 11 digits (issued here in Bangkok) and starts with the number 1. And I'm here to tell you I'm not a legal Thai citizen...just a person on a retirement visa/extension of stay from the U.S. And Congrats to the OP. Mac Not sure about the categories. My ID starts with a 5 and I was certainly born overseas. Not sure about the 'fully Thai' bit though. Seems as if someone made that bit up. The lack of hoop jumping for permits- ability to own my own business, land, stay forever without restricton. Flash that ID card baby, and the world is your oyster. I travel alot through SE Asia for work, and my Australian passport is next to useless in this part of the world. In most cases the process to apply is hardly onerous - part of the journey for many long termers who work here. Like most things in life, the task, broken down into smaller parts over time, makes things more bearable. All largely unquantifiable, not nevertheless valuable for those who want to base themselves here.
