Anyone Received An Ems Package Into Thailand?

Reason I ask is that I want to buy an Chinese tablet from HongKong and they send it EMS and I'm wondering if I'll get hit up for import duty.

Yes you will.

What did you have to pay duty on?

They do it by weight and the cost of the original item - if they are both high, then expect to get stung...

For example, I get rc helicopter parts sent over quite regularly from Hong Kong and Singapore by EMS. My last package contained batteries and was fairly heavy (about 2kg). I ended up paying nearly 40% of the original cost on top, so only saved a very small amount in the end!

You could ask the sender to put the customs price 'declaration' as a lower percentage of the real cost. But that might not be legal whistling.gif (and could cause problems for you if the package went missing and you tried to claim the costs back)...!?

You might be better off buying it in Thailand (if you can), as you probably won't be saving much at all when you factor in shipping and custom's 'tax charges'.

Why would you buy a Chinese tablet and import it from HK. There are so many Chinese tablets available right here in Thailand. You import one of those tablets from HK and you have a problem, no one will service it here. You buy in Thailand and usually the shop will service it or send it to be service.

Because all the Chinese tablets I've seen here are crap and overpriced. I spent a couple of hours in Tucom (Pattaya) looking at tablets and most of them are fakes of well known brands. If you want to tell me where I can buy a good brand of Chinese tablet like Asus, Archos, Cube, Novo , Freelander etc, I'd be happy to buy here.

Got EMS from USA today. Electronic gear valued at 10,000 Baht. Paid 100 Baht duty plus 707 Baht VAT tax.

Sent from my GT-I9100T using Thaivisa Connect App

The tablet I want to import only costs $100 so duty shouldn't be much.

I ordered one worth $150 via EMS, told them to do whatever they do to show value lover (33 percent of actual value). They sent via Fedex, I only ended up paying 7 percent vat of $52 or $58 usd declared value.

Fedex / UPS always uses declared value when processing duties and customs tax, if EMS, airport officer come up with some number (usually multiplies with three to find out real value) and then you pay duty / vat from this value.

Whats more f'ed up is I paid 30 percent duty and 7 percent vat in my last 2 orders from bodybuilding (supplements) which come via airmail, not even EMS! It seems they are even more strict than before.

Oh, if its that cheap, what the heck order it. You might get lucky and not have to pay anything. Especially since it's coming EMS. Again, too bad you don't live in Bangkok or near(er) you can find some decent Chinese electronics are very decent prices.

555.. Asus is from Taiwan and Archos from France...

Who buys these shxt when the best Android tabs are from Korea anyway is looking for problems.

I have dozens of EMS parcels that have not been taxed, but 100% of Fedex or DHL are taxed because employees of these companies do clearance for customs automatically! Who dare to advice any courier company is dumb.

I have a fair bit of stuff shipped from China, 99% of that which comes EMS gets through with no duty, if it does get snagged the rate is reasonable.

My experiences with FedEx and the other couriers is the exact opposite :(

What is your experience with Chinese made tablets that you call them sh*t? Of course there is rubbish, but if you do a Google search you will see there are some good ones as well. What tablets are made in Korea? I know there's Galaxy and LG, but what else and what price? If they are the same price as an I-Pad, well you may as well buy an I-Pad.
