Who Enjoys Loy Kratong?

Featured Replies

Most other places Loy Khratong finishes within a few hours of starting. Here in Lower Issaan its for young kids and lovers and there's a bit of a festival but by midnight its just a load of flotsam. Seems to be a one night affair in Bangkok too. Much preferable to Songkran IMO

CM seems to convert all Thai festivals into a tourist-orientated orgy (not literally, but perhaps even that can be re-engineered in some mock-up of an old Patong street or Patts circa 1968). Give it another 10 years and you'll be having a Songkran weekend and a Loy Kratong weekend every other month, Disney-esque style. The new wave of Chinese and Korean tourist operators will demand it! Only hope is that some brave entrepreneur can divert demand into his/her new theme park.

Only 1 day in Pattaya, and yes, i enjoyed being on the beach for a couple of hours, first time since last Kratong

Do you mean you were in Pattaya only one day or that Loy Kratong was one day? Last year it was nearly a whole week of water throwing and noise down there.

l ived in pattaya 9 years and been to every loy kratong, but i think u are talking about songkran mate.

It has been that way for a long, long time. IMO, both Loy Kratong and Song Kran are much quieter than they were 20 years ago.

I hate Christmas and new year and find them much more noisy and dangerous than any Thai festival.

Yeah you are a farang and you critisize loy khratong. I hope to see you critisizing crazy farang in new year in Thailand. Drinking on the pavements, shirts off, shouting and spitting, peeing, puking, fighting on the streets, looking or talking every thai lady like a prostitute...like stray dogs broke their chains back home!

And this is same in our countries as well except we cant take our shirts off as it is cold.

I really cannot understand the OP here.

You come to Thailand and complain about the noise or their traditions?

Please consider your much more noisy and dangerous traditions first man!

Loy Krathong, sure, but Songkran is still pretty good? Haven't noticed much of a decline.

I live near Thapae Gate and I can sometimes go eat at a nearby restaurant and back without getting wet at all during the middle of the day (although it takes some luck). I could have never done that in the old days. Maybe the festival has just spread out, but in this area it is much quieter than it used to be. That being said, it is still pretty wild.
