Maybe, dunno though. 2 years ago on the Kings Birthday in Khanchanaburi, there was only one place serving drinks. as we,d just walked a mile, we sat down and wondered why there was a spare table. Australian accents filled the air, on enquring why she was the only early opener, the Manageress said, No probrem my Brother is Police. This on the Mae Nam Kwai Road in full view, I Love this Country for its laid back attitude. Hope all have a Drink for the King today. Cheers

Ready for a Bloody Mary with your brekkie UG?

A restaurant that I go to a lot does not know if they have to close or not. Apparently, opening without serving alcohol, just is not worth it.

I seem to remember that the King did not want to limit alcohol sales on his birthday, but the police have carried on doing it anyway.

Yes cheers; On some days, my head is filled with such wild and original thoughts that I can barely speak a word. On other days; such as today, alcohol sales are "off limits" blink.png

Yes I hadn,t thought of that. There is not much margin on Food, and as most places these days price their Alcohol like Western owned Bars, unless you could sell it there would be naff all Profit.

un irish pub put out a notice saying they were closed all day and night. possibly a good indicator that there's no booze on sale.

So last night I was eating with an friend, and we made a bet on how long it would take for someone on this forum to whine about alcohol sales today. I said, "probably late morning," and he said, "I give it sunrise." So I believe the OP posted at 8:30am, which makes us even, correct? I really don't wanna lose this. :-)

People always whine about it. I dont drink but don't like stuff like this forcing people not to drink becausr of religion or respect. How much respect is there if it has to be enforced. Same with religion, if people can't do it without being forced too what is the point.

There you go, BuddhaMind. 1st whine of the day, a few minutes after 12. And from a non-drinker too!

You both lost, both more negative than ThaiVisa!

Asking the question is not a whine, in fact not a complaint in the thread. .... I was wondering how long until someone posted "can't you go a day without?" post. this is close, welldone.

I took the question to be a whine. It is not like it came from some one new to Thailand. I would have thought coming from some one with as many years of experience as he has it would have been a statement. We all know that this is Thailand and there will be exceptions. But that will not change the law.

I thought the OP question sounded like a business man asking about the impact on business today.

Or perhaps wondering if many restaurants might be closed today.

I would suggest a ritual TV suicide in protest, that will really show them. Let me know how it works out. If too chicken to stand up for your rights then there is always a local shop selling booze or maybe hit the pharmacies for cough medicine.

I wanted to know if selling alcohol was being allowed this year, for the Burmese woman who runs the restaurant where I often eat during the evening. She decided to close although I suspect that FrisoPee is correct and it is not illegal.

Yes, I have lived here for a while. Long enough to know that the rules in Thailand are not enforced consistently.

Yes that is the way I interpreted your post not as a whine as someone suggested.

BTW: tonight while out for dinner they were serving beer so I agree it does appear legal.

I must say I tried out the Why Not restaurant tonight and my lasagna was quite nice. But, as I usually only drink water with my meal I entirely forgot to ask for wine. I'm not sure if they would have served it or not. I forgot it was the Kings birthday until all the bombs started going off about 7:30PM. I also noticed that a couple of chaps at my hotel were drinking beer, so it can't be a universal law.

All depends on where you go, whether or not they apply the 'rules'.......

For example, last night I went to a very busy/large restaurant on the river and alcohol was being freely sold.

I then went to my local corner shop in Santitham and they also freely sold me a bottle of vodka.

Jesus, I sound like a p**shead! blink.png
