Only In Thailand. Police Escort For Supercars.

I was informed that anyone can pay the highway police for a police escort.

I think that's true. I went on a motorbike run maybe 4 or 5 years ago. We had a couple motorbike cops with us that closed every intersection off for us to ride through. I dunno who organised it but as I understood it someone in the motorbike club knew who to ask for the service, then it was just a matter of paying the right amount of money. I didn't get the impression it was a lot of money.

Maybe a little envy boys,..I would venture most of us wish we were one of the ones driving the cars... with escorts...ahh, will just have to make do with the other escorts that Pattaya provides.

I must say, they were amazing looking machines. 4 different kinds. Stunning.

If I had a million dollar car, and had to drive in Pattaya, I'd want an escort also!!! laugh.png

I prefer my Pattaya escorts inside my car.

Not me. When I see things like that I only wonder what sort of w*nker would buy one.

w*nkers who have the money to buy one. as simple as that.laugh.png

Let me correct that for you

w*nkers who have robbed the money to buy one. as simple as that

As it is clear that it doesn't concern ordinary business men.

If you live and maybe work in Bangkok, you might meet many Thais who could buy a super car every month if they felt like it. Family wealth need not come from illegal enterprise whatever some might think. Even in my own family, a piece of land bought a few decades ago for not too much money appreciated enough that it would pay for a Ferrari easily.

just because people think supercar driver types are often wan*rs doesnt mean they can't afford to buy a supercar.

i can assure you i have the money to buy one but i have no interest in buying a supercar as a c**k substitute or to seek status....i have no trouble in either department.

as for those fantastically rich bangkokians.....lol...there are a few but the percentage of rich bkk'ers is far smaller than it would be in say, london. there are a few people that bought land/property years ago and have become rich...but that isn't business savvy or foresight...just dumb luck.

Speak for yourself, even if i had millions of dollars i would still feel like a total ass doing that

It is true. I've done it more than once for VIP guests. And no, in fact it's not that expensive.

I was simply suggesting to those who think anyone with money must have got it illegally that this need not be the case.

I can afford my own cookies, but thanks anyway.

I'm a wanke_r, but I can't afford a super car........which means.........that owners of super cars are wanke_rs, but not all wanke_rs are owners of super cars. laugh.png

I was at a social do and a guy parked next to me just as I pulled up. He had the supercar between us. I complimented him on the nice car and he was instantly agressive and pretty unpleasant until he realised I was being genuine; it was a nice car.

He turned out to be a nice bloke.

What I do object to though are brats. Brats wherever you find them.

Stopping the traffic for good reason is one thing but indulging people purely because they have the money to own an expensive car is fatuous nonsense that quite rightly offends the sensibilities of most of us.

And let's be clear .............. these freeloading rich Thai brats are amongst th eworst in the world. When they are in your face who can honestly condone their behaviour let alone existence.

Loathing someone because they think that their money should allow them to behave like entitled, superior, obnoxious w**kers is perfectly justified and understandable.

Loathing them because they have a great car (regardless if it's ill-suited to Thailand or costs more money than one thinks should be spent on a car) is just childish jealousy.

(As a lifelong lover of high performance vehicles, whenever I see one in Thailand I have an instinctive and instant momentary reluctance to openly admire it for fear of boosting the overly inflated ego of the driver -- then I come to my senses and think, "Who cares? It's a nice car and I like it so I'll appreciate the car knowing that owning it doesn't mean the guy is any better than me if even if he thinks he is or thinks that I think he is". Just yesterday my son -- who shares my interest -- and I actually pulled into a parking lot just to check out a Porsche we saw parking there. The driver was gone by the time we got there but for all I know he was a perfectly nice guy -- or not. It made no difference to me, it was a cool car.)

Must be nice. A police escort to help you on your way.

Only in Thailand.

No, not even close. I worked for Moog Automotive for 20 years. We were a Nascar & Supertruck sponsor. Each year we took 300 customers to the Daytona 500 in Florida, USA. We boarded our 6 busses at 6:00 am in Orlando, and were given a police escort, with lights for the hour trip to the raceway, and let off in the infield for our customers to walk a short distance to their seats. Totally different when the race was over. We put on "Days of Thunder" with Tom Cruise on the DVD's in the bus. The movie was always over before we were even out of the parking lot!
