The Best Of The 'mini' Cars For Wife

Featured Replies

That 100,000thb rebate scheme has me thinking about buying the wife a small car for her before the offer expires at the end of this year and I would appreciate other people's opinions on which of the many new mini models available based on the following criteria.......

safety, economy, comfort, reliability, space and resale value.....

your opinions appreciated.......

What will she be using it for?

It will probably come down to Nissan March, Suzuki Swift, Mitsubishi Mirage, Mazda 2... Or bigger Vios, Yaris, City, Jazz

I have to say the Swift. My partner bought 1 and its amazing. Once up to speed the engine does less than 2000 rpm at 100 kmph. But you should test drive them all and then decide. Also consider delivery times - I am told that if you order a swift now delivery is jan 2014. It does seem very popular.

She [we] will be using it for town shopping and hauling kids trips where my monster Chev truck is a bitch to park and navigate the small sois of CM. We live about 25k from city. The truck will be used on hiway for longer trips and for hauling bigger loads.

Yes, I second the Swift. Great car. Lotza room; but best to make your order soon. There seems to always be a waiting line for their test drive: try being there early. My son's ex just purchased hers with her part of the house sale proceeds: she and her new hub are happy with their new addition to their household.

Swift is good IF you can wait 7 months +.

Otherwise look at others like the Mitsubishi Mirage for 460,000baht you get a CVT transmission. ABS. Electric windows and mirrors. And if your quick and look around they are in stock. Be aware that the motor show has just put another 85 thousand cars on the waiting list.. so be quick :D

Swift delivery has blown out to over a year now for the auto an manual is not much better. If you need a car faster go for the mirage/march etc. I ordered a swift way back in early August, for June delivery. Delivery is now late next year or early 2014. Suzuki's factory has a low production capacity and cannot handle the number of orders, and has now been exacerbated by many orders at the motor show.

Do not forget cars like the new Kia Picanto. If there is a Kia dealer in CM.

Draw up a list then drive around all the dealers and look at sit in them all and let your wife decide. Then buy whatever she chooses, regardless of your opinion. You may be surprised? My wife picked Proton Savvy. Why? Because it has 4 doors. Strange creatures women.

Kia Picanto is a nice car BUT no ABS in Thailand. Proton Savvy is great value 2nd hand from 230 thou for a 2008

Never realized that. But ABS when used requires a different driving style which I have never got used to so lack of ABS for me is no loss. That being said driving an empty truck which has brakes designed to stop it loaded can be quite entertaining, if one wishes to stop in a hurry. Then one has to think about buying a cheap town car, when it starts to become less cheap when all the electronic do-dads are added.

Somehow that New Honda saloon Amaze looks better then the Brio, seen a few on the roads in the last few days.

If I wanted a small car then no question I would get a Swift, but then I like Suzuki

My wife has just bought a new Mazda 2 Sports. Very nice little motor and she is over moon with it.

Plus will get the rebate next week from Mazda, nice one.

Assuming you put your criteria in preferential order (safety, economy, comfort, reliability, space and resale value) the Fiesta is the clear winner - it's by far the best for the first 2-3 points (in the 1.5L class), but likely amongst the worst for the last couple wink.png

Isn't the rebate payed one year after ownership?

I think resale will be OK as it is so popular at the moment. But yes leg room in the back is practically non-existent !

and the government pay it NOT Mazda.. You actually have to lodge the paperwork with the land transport office.. Maybe that's what the guy meant.
