Documentation For Vehicle Entering Laos At Nongkai

Featured Replies

A colleague of mind was toying with the idea of driving into laos for a visa run trip to Vientianne, his vehicle is in his name and not financed.

Just need an idea of the paperwork that would be required and if its a simple or lengthy process at the borders.

Many thanks

Not much of of a process at border but it will require getting a passport for the vehicle and having it's registration book.

Is that document still called Vehicle Trip Ticket? Who issues it in Thailand?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I have read it being called a passport before. It is applied for at transport ministry office. They stamp departures and re-entries in it.

So it's a whole book. Now I remember what I have seen it called before, in Europe: Carnet. A French word. Not sure if it is the same document we are talking about here; would love to get a scan or photo for my album.

Car need to be in your name ?

Rented vehicules cannot cross I guess ?

Thanks.

Must be fully owned AFAIK.

Searching the Internet some more I found an image of this car passport and see that it is a document unique to Thailand, neither called Vehicle Trip Ticket nor Carnet, but a booklet that is the size of a passport and looks very much like a passport, officially named International Transport Permit, and it gets stamped much like a passport:
