Marriage Certificate Question - Uk Visa

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm about to get our marriage certificate translated.

We have two documents, first is the certificate itself and the second is one stating how long we've been together, details about my passport and visa issue and expiration date, when I first entered Thailand, the date of my affirmation of freedom to marry stamp from the embassy and if my wife wants to take my name.

My question is, do I need to translate and submit both or just the certificate?

thanks for the help!

I think from what you are describing you only need to translate the marriage cert. Not really sure what you mean about the other one, but if you are in doubt it won't hurt to translate that one too.

Kind regards

It is the "flowery" certificate that you require translating. It is sufficient to get a translation which is stamped by an authorized translator for a visa application, ie it is not necessary to get a MoFA certification, however, it might be useful to get the MoFA certification for future use.

Indeed.

For all purposes in the UK, including visa and leave to remain applications, a certificate stamped on the translation by the translator is sufficient.

But if you want to visit Europe, Schengen visa applications require the translation be certified by the MFA.

You could have this done at the Thai embassy in Kensington, but doing it at the MFA whilst in Bangkok is a lot less hassle.
