Popular Post Familyonthemove
Do you know of a worse road anywhere on the planet for bikes than Bangkok's Sukhumvit Road? It has everything .... - Grinding traffic and permanent jams - The BTS to hold in the pollution - Terrible road surface with huge pot holes, earthquake sized cracks and metal plates - Homicidal bus drivers - Taxis that try to drive through you - Police checkpoints that force you to drive in the most dangerous lane - Traffic lights with red sequences that are so long it's quicker to abandon your bike and buy one on the other side of the lights - flooding - And a train crossing with no gates Ewan and Charlie had to deal with mud and gravel .... but they weren't being chased by crazy motorsai riders between rows of pink taxis whilst riding on slippery-as-ice wet steel plates and breathing neat diesel smog. I really enjoy riding out of the city - but for me getting there (or to work) always needs a trip along the Road From Hell. Make me feel better - tell me of a worse road for bikers.

VocalNeal
Hwy 4 Phetkasem (Asian hwy2) from Bangkok towards Nakhom Pathom is for me the worst stretch of road for bikes in and around Bangkok. From what I see in social media anywhere in China is worse than here.

JonnyF
Bang Na-Trat is my least favourite. Huge potholes, ruts, massive cement trucks, buses, taxis, and the piece de resistance is the constant flow of motorbikes driving the wrong direction to avoid having to make a U-turn

bramds
Well, thanks, its a bit of comfort that somewhere is a tad worse than pattaya The roads in Pattaya are actually quite decent. You should try the B-road from Udon Thani to Nong Kai.

antpet
How about worst bikes for the road? Thailand would surely be a contender. Seven on a 125 if you include the baby and toddlers. No service ever required, bald tyres, crap brakes, rust compulsory, no lights [ head or signal ], smoke trail, oil dripping [what's oil?], laden with sacks of ..... you name it and of course no licence, going the wrong way agaist traffic, u-turning, swerving at night pitch black. All protected by either an amulet [ that's a filthy chain round your neck with a big plastci lump hanging from it OR a belief that 'it not my time' held by some one who left school aged 7 to sell either veg or themselves on a street. Stupidity doesn't come in to it as they all do it regardless of class, education, circumstances or background.

wantan
I had to ride through Bkk on my way to Kanchanaburi this last weekend and once again I had to wonder how anyone would want to live there. An absolute nightmare! Not everyone living in BKK wants to live there. The longer i stay there the less nightmare it is. Humans can adapt themselves to most things I like King Kaew Road. Loads of crazy trucks and tarmac like ice floes. Edited December 20, 2012 by wantan

Popular Post macknife
Ya drive A motorcycle in Bangkok.Sooner or later you'll be heading to the nearest hospital. Perhaps based on your riding skills. there are millions of bike riders in BKK that never end up in hospital.
eezergood
Ya drive A motorcycle in Bangkok.Sooner or later you'll be heading to the nearest hospital. Ya walk out of your door in the morning, sooner or later you'll be heading to the hospital! In the average persons life, lets say 70 yrs, its an almost dead cert you will visit a hospital at least once! So your comment is about as valid as mine,

VocalNeal
I will add to the list HWy 2 from Nakhon Ratchasima to Khon Kaen. Traffic wise it is OK and mainly straight but it is concrete and one has to continually check that one's teeth haven't been shaken out.

Familyonthemove
Hways 2 and 4 seem to get some votes. I agree that the thundering trucks, big holes and slippy concrete make then scary .... but there's still some air in the diesel fume mix and taxi concentration is lower. I reckon the BTS over Sukhumvit elevates it to the worst road status because it's like smoking 20 Capstan Full Strength every time you ride it. Phuket also made a suprising entry in the World's Worse .... I've never ridden there .... luckily. rene123
Going north on hwy 2A (1) from Nakhon Sawan to Tak there are some REAL bad sections of broken pavement and patched pavement. Fortunately, they were working on sections of it and it MIGHT improve in the near future. The constant stream of heavy transport trucks is bound to have an effect. Add to the mix a few idiots in pickups who drive like they are riding a motorbike and it is anything but a relaxing ride. Even when they have a full passing lane they still try to shave as close to you as possible when going by at high speed.

Popular Post qdinthailand
The 'road' Charlie and Ewan rode from Moyale, Ethiopia to Isiolo, Kenya - Hwy 2 in Kenya - is to me the worst road. Over 500 km of god-awful tire ruts a foot or more deep filled with loose gravel, embedded rock in hard-as-concrete dried mud outside the ruts, bleak, barren terrain with only a few signs of civilization around. Two days to do 500 kms under the best of conditions. Per their book, they blew out 4 Ohlins shocks on this section of road. Definitely the worst road I have ever done. And for pavement, try Cairo for bad conditions. Edited December 23, 2012 by qdinthailand
