Looking For "locals" Type Sports Bar With Atmosphere

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Made a welcome post earlier and looked thru the archives before posting this question. I am looking for a sports bar that attracts local sports enthusiasts such as myself. By enthusiast, sitting and watching and bicep curling glasses fits the bill. I have checked out the Red Lion on a Sat for the games, but it didn't seem like a "lads" type atmosphere (I have read that the Chiang Mai FC themed stuff there is a different kettle of fish). Yeah, basically looking to find a bar that shows a lot of sport and attracts locals that I can mingle in with and maybe make some like minded friends. Maybe I just went to the RL on an off day, I did enjoy it and the prices were ok.. but any suggestions as to where and when I'll find a good sports atmosphere would be great!

Thanks :)

I have no interest in sports or sports bars, but I am guessing that the UN Irish Pub might be what you are looking for.

The Half Moon used to be good, haven't been for a while though

If you prefer somewhere a bit out of town, try the Santtiham Plaza area in Chang Pueak...lots of sports bars...mostly young locals..

I am not a sports enthusiast also but some places I have been which certainly have atmosphere:

UN irish bar

Chiangmai Saloon (next door to irish bar)

Thai One on

Santhitan Plaza (but only ever seen Muay thai down there)

and there is a lot of sport going on down Loy Kroh but we advised you to stay away from there until you can muck in and tackle it.

Thanks so much for the suggestions, I will try and check them all out especially the Irish bar, the one next to it and the local once I can speak the language a little. If you have anymore please keep 'em coming :) - also if anyone knows of any "event type" stuff at these bars with get togethers etc would be very keen to hear about them!

Thanks, Jon

If you walk to the foot of Loi Kroh road near the iron bridge over the Ping River there is the Down Under bar. It's big, comfortable and not too noisy. It features all the latest sports on several TV screens. Drinks and food are reasonable.

UN or the Down under bar.
