hellodolly
Thanks, I usually stay @ pornping tower, so it's a short walk maybe 10-15 min, or 50-60 baht in tuk-tuk (im guessing) the strole sounds better with a couple of pit-stops on the way for a yen leo. rgds all & merry xmas songhklasid. It's 500 meters.. Just cross the Iron Bridge. Ya I am handicapped and can make it there faster than that from the Pornping. Perhaps he should consider the Night Bazaar I think it is about 25 yards closer.

Konini
My son came here on his honeymoon ... get this, coz I'd told him all about The Dukes ribs! I lived in Melbourne for almost 20 years, and I honestly can't imagine anyone other than an Aussie doing that. As long as they enjoyed them, that all that counts.
mania
So, one-son went home to Oz with one-new-wife and immediately booked a return-to-the-Dukes trip for 2013. I initially missed the first part that he came with a new wife on his honeymoon So I thought wow he really liked the Dukes On a side note, Does anyone else feel as I do about Western food after living here? When my wife first moved to the US for the 1st six months or so although she really liked the food She usually felt a bit sick after a big meal & many times lost it later. Now we live here & we eat pretty much only Thai style diet but once in awhile get the urge for Western food. Burgers,Mexican, Steak & mashed potatoes or Pizza etc. After eating although I thoroughly enjoyed the food, it is now the both of us who feels sick afterwards. I am sure it is not the food & as I said it tastes great! But I wonder if your not use to it if it is just too heavy or rich for your system? I wouldn't say it is too oily as Thai cooking also uses oil etc. Also it is not stopping me from going back again Albeit we only eat western once a month or so But I just find it odd & remembered how it was for my wife when she first started eating western foods. kaptainrob
@mania:- My son loves good food, particularly Thai, and having married a Vegetarian was especially eager to sample Duke's succulent ribs + my wife's own home cooking... Tom Yum Moo, Khao Mok Gai etc... Pork in Th is so cheap, and sweet, I love cooking with it. Have mastered twice cooked pork belly but can never get ribs as tasty ... it's all in the sauce + oven cooking method. Thing is, return flights Oz -Th, @ only US$600, means he can come visit for a week for less than 2 nights accom. in an Aus city or resort hotel.

uptheos
Just ate at night bazaar branch. Thought it would be packed in high season but just couple of tables occupied. Great steak pizza fries and some dark wheat beer. Did you take this picture in anticipation of posting on TV, or do you always take pictures of your half eaten meals? (post number 19) Edited December 24, 2012 by uptheos

(post number 19) I think he couldnt afford another meal for his partner; so while she/he was eating he was photographing...............and of course waiting for the false teeth. MMan
Personally I prefer the Night Bazaar Dukes. Haven't noticed a difference in the food, though I seem to get better service at the Night Bazaar location. Khun Gai and the staff there are great. I like the views of the Night Bazaar action too.My favorite item is the Cajun Chicken sandwich. Big and juicy chicken breast with cajun spices (I add Tabasco too) and what is probably the best sandwich bun in town. Fresh lettuce and a perfect tomato slice too. I also really like Duke's pizza, salads and burgers. And of course the value for the money. I saw one other poster mentioned having a harder time with rich western food after being in Thailand a long time. While I really like a good burger or steak, my system has a harder time with beef now that I don't eat it so much. I don't get sick, but feel bloated much of the night & next morning, especially if I have beef and fries. So I now prefer smaller portions of beef and fries, accompanied with a good sized salad. The riverside Duke's location has a small burger on the menu that is just right for me. The Night Bazaar Dukes only has big burgers on the menu, which are way too big for me... but if you ask they'll make the small burger for you (the newer staff may not know about that so need to talk with someone who's been there awhile). Very drinkable and reasonably priced house wines too.For many people who live here though I can see the appeal of the riverside location with convenient parking, a bigger & more diverse menu, and no need to fight your way through the sidewalk vendors.Haven't tried the new Promenada location yet but hope to soon. It looks very nice.
Frank James
Duke's is a Chiang Mai legend, as is the owner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=oFWdpjVqAeQ
kcore
Here is something you might not have known but, I find very helpful. Dukes will sell you there hotdog and hamburger buns. Just order a day before pick up. Absolutely the best. Can't seem to find nothing close for when I fire up the BBQ. By the way, anyone know where we can buy chick peas? Would love to make some hummus !

Mapguy
Hummus! Now someone is eating sensibly !! Try this: http://mideastfood.about.com/od/appetizerssnacks/r/hummusbitahini.htm Dave (The Duke's), where would you be without the local carnivores ?! Perhaps you could hand out coupons for free cholesterol testing! By the way, one local hospital is doing a promotion !! Or hand out afterdinner statin tablets instead of mints! Perhaps TV commentators addicted to and overindulging at your place should automatically be barred from the new (now on hold) health insurance plan for foreigners in Thailand. Sing for your supper!! http://www.metrolyrics.com/fat-and-greasy-lyrics-thomas-fats-waller.html Edited December 12, 2013 by Mapguy

So what if some of the meals are rather high in fat? What is it to you if a lot of people enjoy a high-fat meal from Dukes on occasion? Perhaps TV commentators such as you should automatically be barred from posting.
Mapguy
Wow!!!! Now here's someone who really takes his hamburgers seriously !! Yes, The Duke's is a very popular place (and not just with Americans!) And Dave is a very nice guy! Tap yo' feet! Like the song? It's cute! Here is Fats singing it: Edited December 12, 2013 by Mapguy
