My wife saw a large group of songtheaw drivers meeting with the "police" down at the poo dam a couple days ago. Hopefully maybe there was a mention of how SOME local songtheaw drivers are charging tourists crazy prices in order to become like their big brothers in Phuket. My wife rides these every day and comes home with disturbing stories. A few recent ones ...Krabi / Ao Nang white songtheaw which charge 50 B to go from Krabi to Ao Nang charged two Japanese ladies 1,000Baht EACH for the ride. Three days ago, two tourists asked how much to Ao Nang? The driver said get in, I'll tell you how much when we get there. Yesterday one refused to let my wife ride because she was getting off at Klong Talat and the driver said he wanted only falangs cause they pay more....I give Krabi about two or three more years until it becomes as fine as Phuket.

Just like those dhl stops where they distribute the parcels....in this case they were distributing the cash.

Krabi and especially Ao Nang is already turning into Phuket, won't be much longer till it reaches the full extent of Phuket.

AS many other posters know, this is allowed to happen because of police not doing their jobs and being too busy with all kinds of other more "important" matters. the place is going downhill fast.

I for one will build a new house in a smaller village where our palm plantation is, our 2 houses in Krabi will either be for rent or sale.

As far as the Songtaews go, they should ban these vehicles and drivers, pain in the ass they are.

Ban the songtaews ! How is that gonna help anything I think they are great and a cheap way to get around ,if tourists don't do there research and overpay that's the tourist fault the prices to ao nang are posted up in krabi town.ban the buses and your left with only taxi option 500 bht krabi to ao nang which is 10 times the price of a songtaew journey

I personally can't can't be bothered if they are cheap or easy to get around in, all I know is that they are slow crawling <deleted> on the road and obstructing traffic for us car drivers.
