Family- Ours & Wifeys (In The Village)

As it says but will change in the near future as we plan to put our son into a Thai Hiso school in the nearby city 40 min away - not saying it might be beter but has got to have more of a chance then just riding motor bikes & drifting from job to job day by day as i notice everyday hear in the village

Also came accross threads where Falangs quote other Falangs as <deleted> (as to matters concerning wifey or her family) which i happen to agree with as well

I also notice in the culture that if they see anything unocupied or unused they have the right to use it ( yu guessed it i live next door to the family)

I dont mind at times but have to keep reminding my wife that this is our place with our family first as i dont want them being in my face every minute of the day

I dont think most Thais know how to look after themselves as my wifes phone never stops ( even when yu go out for half the day)

Example today - Sitting here at computer doing buisness our son went to school & the b/inlaws son didnt, so he comes up & bursts straight through the fly screen door & just helps himself to our young lads toys (this is whenever he likes - no one teaches them )

So i yelled out to the wife to get him out & like most times am looked at with a blank face ( his parents are home ) & most probably thinking where one big family

<deleted> - I try to go forward with our family They have to learn to look after themselves

So To alot of you readers it might sound im just whinging BUT i know you have more exp then me SO would you class this as normal in or out of a village (like Moo Baan )

PS; They do scatter for a couple of days but then it just goes back to what the consider normal

I have a sort of similar problem though not with the family as they live in BKK and we live up country but with sort of friends kids.

I exercise my charm and tact and say loudly in my best Thai, MAI DAI followed by NO in English.

This stops them in their tracks and after a few times they sort of realise that I mean what I say. If they persisted in trying the next words were Awk Bai and You go outside.

That always works and if they moan at my wife I tell her to send them to me as if I have any sympathy at all.

You could always go round to them with your son and start playing with their toys and breaking them.

Glad to see its not just my way of thinking

I also forgot to mention since weve had a car for four yrs now we hardly ever used the motor so said the family can use as long as they looked after it & pay for the services 400 bht every 5000 km

But was riding it ine &felt problem with back wheel so took it to the shop ( The nut had come off th axle ? )

OK put a service on it as well & when removing the air filter it had been there for near on 15000 km

So No More Use on that bike & certainly getting nowhere near the new one

What you might suggest to your wife over the motorbike is that as you don't use it and the family do you could sell it to them at a reasonable price and then it would be theirs and they could pay all the bills. You may also get intoa bit of trouble doing it but then you can point out that the family will own it.

Thai villagers don't have much idea of personal property.

You being a foreigner have different ideas, but you are in the minority.

If you want to be different, learn to lock your doors and build a big wall round the property line with a lockable gate.

Just like all the other Thais that don't want to share.
