80mm Mortar Shell found in Jomtien Lake

PATTAYA:--On Thursday Night Police were called to a small lake inside Soi 7 off the Tepprasit Road in Jomtien which was discovered by a 48 year old fisherman.

The 80mm Mortar Shell which weighed approximately 2kg was fished out of the lake by Khun Sai who quickly realized what he had caught and called in the authorities.

A decision was made to call in the Royal Thai Navy Bomb Disposal Unit

Much of the land around those lakes looks like fill brought in from elsewhere. I would guess that's how the shell - which is artillery, not mortar - got there. You can see large numbers of this type of shell on the sea bed around a small island to the south west of Pattaya which the Thai navy sometimes uses for gunnery practice.
