People are warned against buying cheap shampoos at open markets.

The Ministry of Public Health has warned the people against buying inexpensive shampoos at open markets, while test results of sample shampoos, claimed to have caused massive hair loss, will come out within two days.

The Deputy Minister of Public Health, Mr. Anutin Charnveerakul (อนุทิน ชาญวีรกูล), commented on a Samutprakarn (สมุทรปราการ) resident’s complaint about a well-known shampoo which have caused her hair to fall, saying that the consumer is found to have developed allergies against some chemicals. However, he has ordered a test result of this shampoo to find its components, and the results are expected within a few days. He said that if the product is found to fail the standards that the company submitted to the Food and Drug Administration, the manufacturer will face a 1-year prison term and a fine of no more than 60,000 baht, or both. He said that people should not panic over the case, adding that allergies may develop on only some individuals.

The Deputy Minister of Public Health said that the public should be more careful when buying cheap products at open markets. He said that they should suspect that those products are fake and do not meet standards.

The shampoo blamed for hair loss was NOT some cheap no-name stuff, but "Head and Shoulders".

This is an international brand, they have passed German government tests with good results. But multinationals ("Head and Shoulders" is made by Procter and Gamble) use the same brand name for different products in different countries, i.e. a shampoo with the same name and packaging may have completely different ingredients in the 3rd world than in rich countries.

The health warning should apply to pretty much all of that stuff that Thais love to put on their skin: creams, lotions, shower gels - almost all those more or less unhealthy products you get at Watsons et al.

I once tried to buy soap in a Thai Carrefour without any additives (especially without fragrance). They didn't have any.

No, if you take a look at this sentence, the results have not yet been released. That is speculation. It is not yet confirmed.
