Yes i have a yearly salary of £16174 and have £23000 of savings. As i dont earn the minimum requirement of 18600 pounds my savings are enough i think,if someone could let me know if this correct that would be great

My understanding is that they will look at your savings in excess of £16k (so £7k for you) and divide the figure by 2.5 years (the time you're applying for) to give £2.8k. Then that added to your salary is >£18,600 (just). I'm assuming no kids and you've got a stack of evidence for your salary and savings for last 6m... Also caveat I'm no pro at this, just done it myself

That's my understanding, too.

Remember that the money must

  • be in your name, your partner's name, both names or a combination of these,
  • have been in your and/or your partner's possession and complete control for at least the 6 months prior to the application,
  • not be a loan, e.g. from family, although a gift is acceptable provided you can show you satisfy the above condition,
  • be accessible at short notice; e.g. in a short notice cash account with an approved financial institution, not in stocks and shares,

Remember, too, that you will have to meet the financial requirement again in 30 months time when your partner applies for Further Leave to Remain and again 30 months after that when they apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. The government have said that the minimum required will be increased each year; though they don't say by how much!

However, when applying for FLR and ILR your partner's earnings, if any, will be taken into account as well as yours.
