My wife has her third UK visit visa application ready to submit next Monday. The only wrinkle in the blanket is her Thai ID card. After slowly disintegrating over the past few months, it is now lost. She filed a lost ID card claim with the Udon police but the Amphurs office in Udon said they can't issue her new card until next Monday as they apparently 'no have' today.

Since she has had 2 UK visit visa's issued before, do you think the officer at Regent House will accept a photo-copy of the now lost card AND the original police report? Or do they insist on seeing the card every time? She would have rescheduled the appointment but when we last looked at their calendar, Monday the 14th was the last day of availability in January and absolutely nothing available in February. We will check again over the weekend in case they only release available dates week-by-week. Maybe there's a post holiday rush on for visas?

Thanks,

NL

As Thai citizens must always carry their ID card on their person and be able to produce it on demand, we have never submitted the original with a visa application, just a photocopy. Never had a problem.

I'm not sure if even that is necessary as the applicant's passport is proof of their ID.

BTW, the staff at Regents House are not a UKBA officials and although they can advise if documents may be missing or incomplete they must accept the application and forward it to the embassy if the applicant insists.

There was a period when all offices had run out of ID cards, applicants were issued with a pink, I think it was pink, slip, these slips were accepted for visa and local requirement purposes. If the applicant was given one if these slips, it should suffice.

If she has a copy, which is the requirement, that would do, failing which she should include a para in her covering note, but, as 7by7 points out, the passport is adequate proof identity.

Thanks for that. We both reckon it won't be a show stopper. I must ask her if they ever looked at the original card when she did the last couple of applications. In most of these procedures, I believe they usually like to sight the original and file the copy but if they get stroppy, then so will Mrs NL. I always thought it funny/peculiar that they keep the original pass book and return it with the passport. I mean that could be a showstopper if she lost bank plastic in the interim or wanted to do a more esoteric financial transaction as Thai banks are Luddites when it comes to pass book functionality IMHO.

I recognize the Regents House desk jockeys are just that; just didn't want to call them such in the OP.

We have also had 2 successful applications and in both cases we supplied the original Bank Passbooks together with copies and both times they checked the original book with the copy and returned the original.

Ah... maybe mine forgot the copies. She does most of the organising herself and I just fly/drive with her for my annual airing.
