Hi everyone

Just talking to a friend of my wife and she wants to apply for visa to see her boyfriend but turns out she can't do it without parental approval and her parents are <deleted> that haven't spoken to her since she met her boyfriend. Is there any way round this? Her guy is from Norway.

Any help appreciated.

Travel to Norway for a Thai citizen requires a Schengen visa.

You may be granted a Schengen visa if you intend to travel to Norway as a tourist, on a family visit, on public business or a business trip, a study visit or other business which does not require a work or residence permit. Perhaps contact the Norway embassy in Thailand - http://www.emb-norway.or.th/Embassy/Visa-and-other-permits/Tourist-visa-Schengen-visa/

I just saw the checklist and it does indicate if under 20 the need for signatures from both parents. So not sure there are any options. Not sure about the last item regarding Power of Attorney, so best to check with the Embassy to see if this is an option.

If you are under 20, you must also submit: - If you are travelling alone:  An original and a copy of letter of consent signed by both parents, stamped by Amphur -

If you are travelling with only one of your parents:  An original and a copy of letter of consent from the other parent -

If the parent you are travelling with has single custody:  Original and a copy of certificate of single custody

 Letter granting Power of Attorney. (Optional for applicants who want the reference or other person to represent them in the case. Separate form is obtainable at the Embassy).

Thanks guys

But we know all that. It's specifically the under 20 part we are trying to see if it can be bypassed in any way as her mum won't sign and her dad is dead.

Do I presume that the 'e' and 'a' keys are unusually close on your keyboard ... rolleyes.gif

But your suggestion does have merit ... biggrin.png

Apart from the whole part at the start where I say "a friend of my WIFE" :)

So any other other suggestions ?

Don't let that stop you?

She obviously managed to get some degree of 'asshol_e' consent to get the passport. Sad to note that the poor girls father died some time between post 1 and 4.

I think you can either take Tywais rather excellent advice and contact the Norwegian authorities via the links provided or hang out here, hoping to find a way of circumventing the Schengen immigration laws and regulations.

If the boyfriend in Norway is as keen to help as you seem to be, I am sure that true love will prevail.

Perhaps I should have given her full life story for the benefit of the cynical few but I will sum up by saying her parents now consist of her real mom or as we like to call her ,asshol_e...and a stepdad with no legal rights to authorise her thai departure.

Passport was done when real dad was alive.

Her boyfriend is helping but as I am a member here and he is not I thought I would ask for advice here.

True love can only prevail so much sometimes it needs a helping hand. Was I wrong in assuming the that a board called Thai Visa would not have a few members willing and able to shed some light?

Anyway thanks for the constructive input. I know it was in there somewhere.

I would never suggest to anyone that they marry simply to get a visa!

Marry in haste, repent at leisure!

The Schengen regulations usually require parental approval from applicants under 18 who will be traveling without their parents. I can only assume that as Thais under 20 cannot obtain a passport without parental consent that this is a Thailand specific requirement.

But at the end of the day, if the Norwegian authorities say that she needs parental consent, then she needs parental consent.

Have you or your friend contacted the Norwegian embassy? What did they say?

It probably is going to come down to making peace with the mother (perhaps a nice gift or envelope). If father is deceased his death certificate would suffice if both parents need to sign application.
