Hi there

I have no qualifications whatsoever in the teaching feild, not even a TEFL Cert. I'm currently based on Sukomvit road, Bangkok. I'm certainly intrested in doing abit of teaching, perhaps so i that i can stay slightly longer than expetced. I'm worried about a few things, mainly my looks. I've heard that their's alot of racism in Thailand, so i thought i'd see what you guys thought before i commence my search.

I'm not looking for some top job for obvious reasons, anything will do really, i'm not picky with regards to salary etc/visa etc... I'm happy with visa runs.

What would you're guys, given what i look like, be the best course of action in obtaining a Job as an English Teacher. What papers to read etc... How to conduct my self in an interview etc... (this is Thailand remeber customs and cultures differ than that of my home country, England)

Any advice would be tryully appreciated, and aplogize in advance if similar threads to this one currently exsist.

It seems like a good time to reiterate my typical advice to those who are new to the teacher game in Thailand and on Thai forums.

Do not post asking "how should I/can I/will I get a job." This question is too general and no one is going to try to answer it for you. You need to do your own homework. If I were you, I'd start by reading the entire "Questions About Qualifications" thread above, along with all the threads mentioned/linked in that thread on about page 12. Armed with more information, and presumably a couple of interviews by that time, you can ask more specific questions that will be more beneficial to you and that one of us is actually likely to answer.

I've already bumped a number of threads with advice for the hiring season onto the first page of the teacher's subforum. Check out the thread on "interview checklist," for example. In terms of job hunting, the Ajarn.com job list is probably where you should be looking.

Since you have no experience/qualifications whatsoever, you might consider doing one of the TEFL courses to put yourself a step ahead of all the others who are also starting at step 0.

"Qualified" without some more description, means whatever the employer's recruiter thinks it means. "Well qualified" might mean a bachelor's degree in any field, a TEFL cert, and some experience teaching English in Thailand. Or something else. Besides, some of those ads will ask for such qualifications, and settle for an nonn-degreed Slovenian with no teaching experience.
