Fyi - No Residency Certificate Until Feb 5 @ Immigration

Recommended Posts

Well went to immigration to get my second residency certificate in a 2 days, last Thursday (jan 24)

I had all paperwork filled out and pictures etc. The girl would not accept the paperwork and told me to come back on Monday (Jan 28)

So today I went back and she is accepting paperwork now, but the residency certificates wont be ready until Tuesday Feb 5th because "boss is on vacation"

Good Luck.

I was there on Tuesday last week for my residence certificate. Wanted to get the 'yellow book'. I expressly checked the "other" box, and wrote in the reason.

Just today I went to get that taken care of at amphur office. They said I had the wrong 'reason' on my residence letter - on the bottom, in Thai, it stated it was to buy a vehicle.

I have to return to get another letter - pay another 500 baht - after Feb 4. Thanks for the heads up.

i bought a motorbike today and they said the residence certificate would have to wait until next week. it's funny how the motorcycle shop knew this head honcho was out of town too. they even let me take the new motorbike and do the certificate later. i may accidentally forget. :-)

did you get the papers on the bike yet? I believe you'll have to return to the bike shop to get your tag and registration paper to affix to bike. so I don't think so.

And if the boss is incapacitated and unable to sign off on whatever there is no back up, lower ranking or authorised officer to fill in?

They simply haven't had the time lately to think about that.

On the topic of Residency Certificate, I got my first one last week. I wanted a Residency Certificate because I would like a Thai drivers license. A day after getting my Residency Certificate I went to the drivers licencing office and they took the original Residency Certificate from me, and though I received a drivers licence, they kept the original Residency Certificate.

I asked the nice lady on the other side of the counter if I needed the Residency Certificate to transfer the green book of a second hand scooter I had just purchased and she said yes. Luckily I had a copy of the original Residency Certificate with me and so she took that to a desk where a man wrote something on it in Thai and then stamped it with a seal. The lady brought the copy back to me and said I could use that one when I went to the office to transfer the green book into my name.

The next day I went to the transfer office and got the green book changed into my name. However, they took the signed and stamped copy of the original Residency Certificate from me as well, and I never got it back. So my question is this: in addition to having a scooter I'm also considering buying a motorcycle. Since I am now without a Residency Certificate (both the original and the stamped copy are gone), do I need to go through getting yet another Residency Certificate to take to the green book transfer office for the motorcycle?

Thanks in advance for your answer!

Sounds like some good reasons were posted to get the yellow tabien baan if you can. If can be a time consuming effort but, once obtained, makes you an "independent person."

It facilitates many activities such as obtaining phone and internet connections in your name, etc.

I let the car registration inadvertently expire one year, got stopped by the police, showed them the registration with my name on it and a copy of the yellow book and they just politely wrote me up and sent me on my way. Did it make a difference? Do not know, but it had to show I was just a forgetful long time resident.

I have used mine numerous times over the years and find it was well worth the time and effort to get it.

It does cost 3 times as much but if your a US citizen &

you really need one in a hurry or just want less hassle the US consulate does them too.

Charge is $50 or 1492 THB

No papers or proofs needed just your passport.

Sign a paper stating where you live, swear it is true & your done

I have bought 3 of them now because it is so easy to do there.

Online appointment usually can be booked a few days ahead.

Takes 5 minutes & all done.

I would guess other country consulates probably also provide this service?

Just out of curiosity, do they issue a receipt?

Yes & I also use my US charge card

What I forgot to mention is if paying in Dollars it is $50

But if paying in Baht I think it was 1600

Since my Capital One card has no fees for foreign transactions

I just use that

No residency certificates?

That's going to put them in a bad mood for a while.

I thought I was doing the right thing and downloaded the pinned Residency Certificate on the Thai Visa site.

I carefully filled it in, took it to the Chiang Mai Immigration office, and was told 'it's the wrong form' . The girl there was very helpful and cheerful, and when I pointed out that this was what the Bangkok Immigration office have listed, she said 'this is Chiang Mai'! I was given a totally different form to fill in.

Having done another residency certificate a few months ago, which took an amazing 15 minutes, I was floored when she told me to come back in 5 hours! I asked what the problem was, and it was 'the boss is away'.

Came back at 3pm, and was told to wait another hour. I eventually got the certificate at 4pm.

The number of people in that cramped little building is truly amazing.

My wife went to the local Amphur and organise me a Yellow Book years ago based on my daughter owning the house, BUT, we had the decent person process it and no problem. So now any request via two other people there results in "no cannot". There is still one left OK but hard to corner, but essential. That same Amphur I had a lawyer organise something once that was rejected to his subordinates, so he came up. Very vocal and lots of wais, 5 minutes later all approved.

Well someone has to take charge of the un-receipted money.

I returned on Thursday (31st) to pick up a new application and was told for my Address Book request - the yellow book - I needed to have a translation of the front page of my passport (the picture page). I had this done to get the yellow book, but had to return home to get the original, and return to immigration with a photo copy. I submitted my application around 11am - was told to come back at 3pm that day (not on or after the 4th).

At 3:50 pm(!) I walked out with a completed Residence Certificate - no charge in lieu of handing back the 'wrong' letter. So apparently they had figured out a way to handle Residence Certificates (it looked like the same lady who did the signatures before was 'back' from her vacation? - guessing the original story by the OP that the 'boss is on vacation' was made up by the counter clerk, whatever!).

Anyway, now it is the 4th as far as business at CM Immigration is concerned, so have at it.
