I am planning to drive into Bangkok from Pattaya for a day of shopping.

This will be my first time driving in Bangkok. I know my way around, but would prefer to park right away and use the BTS/MRT for the day.

So I am looking for a garage that is reasonable, say for 8 hours, near the BTS and easy to get to from Rama IV. I was thinking of the Silom Complex.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Why drive all the way into Bangkoks' terrible morning traffic, then park and use the BTS for the rest of the day - then go back to the garage and fight your way out of Central Bangkok again?

Better use a place like Central Bangna - you will need a taxi to get from there to the BTS but I can't think of anywhere else nearer at the moment (Lotus Bangna.is easier but they will charge you after a few hours in their carpark)

There is the Tesco at On -Nut with the BTS right next to it. We used to park there when we were in Pattaya coming to BKK for the day but the car park is not that large and with all the extra traffic on the road it may fill up quickly.

Central at Bangna is a good suggestion too .

Yes - sorry, I meant Lotus On-nut, but I believe they will charge you if you stay over a certain number of hours?

Public Onnut BTS parking is across from Tesco-Lotus and down the soi a little. Take a look at the Onnut BTS station information at the BTS web page for exact information.

You'll be hard pressed to find any free secure parking in Bangkok. Even the BTS (except Mo Chit) cars parks have fees.

GrWith Lotus Onnut they charge after a few hours. And if you have to pay, I would say park at Emporium. It's easy from 'Port' exit entering Bangkok and leaving Bangkok, you get a few hours free, then pay about 20 thb per hour thereafter unless you make a purchase (buy a candy. Bar and get validated at supermarket on 5th floor) with additional free hours. Plus the Promphong BTS is quite near everything. Only thing is that traffic can get hairy during the rush hours. However, it's not too far from the expressway.

For traffic sake in that area, Dusit Thai is very convenient. Depending on the time and day, they sometimes give out parking cards that don't require payment or validation. On the times that they do, you can go shopping, finish off with a water or snack from the ground floor bakery or have a nice cold beer in their lobby, and get a validation worth a few hours. Because of the location, you can just avoid the congestion on Silom Road and head back to the freeway on Rama 4.

I'm not looking to park for free. I expect to pay, but would like something easy to get to (like Silom Complex). Any info there?

Silom Complex is not easy to get to, it's in one of the busiest parts of Central Bangkok - hence the suggestion that you park on the outskirts of Bangkok - like Bangna - and use the BTS to get into town.

Silom Complex is very easy to get to. Off the expressway onto Rama IV, left on Saladaeng, right on Saladaeng 1. There is sometimes a holdup getting off the expressway, otherwise it is quick, except during the rush hour. I have gone this route many times by taxi.

I love the idea of being in a modern complex where I can grab a bite to eat and get on the BTS or MRT without going out in the weather. However, I have never actually been in the garage and that's why I am posting. Does it fill up in the morning? Is it expensive? Is there validation?

You could park at Mega Bangna and take their free shuttle bus to the BTS. I'm not sure about the frequency. Otherwise, I agree that I would park behind the market opposite Tesco Lotus On Nut. 60 baht fee. It's a 1 minute walk to the BTS. I've managed to park at Villa on Soi 11 for numerous hours without a charge in the past, but I am not sure if they have changed their policies at all.

Personally, I would hate to drive into Bangkok if I needed to find parking for the day and didn't live here. Due to the nature of my work, I am fortunate to be able to park at numerous locations, office buildings, etc. where I am known to work from time to time.

We need an iPhone / Android App that shows all public parking locations, hours, fees, and maps ... That would be a handy thing to have on hand!

There is a secure multistory car park on Convent. It is located behind the Irish pub. (mollies) entrance is about 25m on left if approaching from Silom end. it is a very small discreet entrance. Its a bit expensive but very convenient. If you have a drink in mollies or meal and get them to validate your ticket then get the security to validate the card (a bit of a faff around) before getting to the check out you get a slight discount.
